{"id":353973,"date":"2026-09-22T22:20:15","date_gmt":"2026-09-22T22:20:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/353973\/"},"modified":"2026-09-22T22:20:15","modified_gmt":"2026-09-22T22:20:15","slug":"nyc-marathon-changes-route-for-first-time-in-15-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/353973\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC Marathon changes route for first time in 15 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-block-key=\"uqs82\">The New York City Marathon will take a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyrr.org\/tcsnycmarathon\/the-course\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">slightly different path through the Bronx<\/a> this year \u2014 the first change to the course in 15 years, according to New York Road Runners.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"br2f6\">The shift is meant to \u201cminimize the race\u2019s impacts on the Bronx, as the neighborhood has evolved over the past 50 years,\u201d according to the group\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"7rsja\">Liv Ren, a New York Road Runners spokesperson, said in an email that the new route would help improve access to local businesses in the area. The changes, she said, came after a lengthy assessment of the Bronx section of the course in 2024, including an examination of the race\u2019s impact on local resources and consulting \u201cvarious stakeholders.\u201d Eventually the group landed on two concepts and presented them to the city for consideration, resulting in the update announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"a8vde\">Large-scale events \u2014 and the New York City Marathon is among the city\u2019s largest \u2014 frequently mean road closures and other inconveniences for neighbors and local businesses.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"b9dec\">Much of the South Bronx route will be familiar for those who have done it before. Runners will still enter the borough by crossing over the Willis Avenue Bridge. They\u2019ll then make a left onto East 135th Street and then a right on Alexander Avenue, as they always have. However, rather than heading left on East 138th Street, they\u2019ll continue up Alexander Avenue and take a left on East 141st Street. From there they\u2019ll take a left on Third Avenue and a right onto East 138th Street, where they\u2019ll continue into Manhattan via the Madison Avenue Bridge.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"876h2\">New York Road Runners is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the five-borough course this year. It debuted on Oct. 24, 1976.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"c0evv\">This year\u2019s race is set for Sunday, Nov. 1.
