If you\u2019ve traveled into Canada from Buffalo or Plattsburgh, or driven on I-287 into New Jersey, or on I-90 into Massachusetts, you may have seen billboards with the images of both Kathy Hochul and her GOP challenger Bruce Blakeman that read \u201cYou are now leaving New York (like everyone else). Vote Bruce Blakeman.\u201d<\/p>\n

The billboards are part of a campaign funded by \u201cStrong & Safe New York,\u201d a political action committee funded by Madison Square Garden Chairman and CEO James Dolan.<\/p>\n

PAC spokesman, media strategist and founder of Lighthouse Public Affairs Chapin Fay discussed the campaign with Capital Tonight host Susan Arbetter.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have actually raised over $5 million dollars from various people who all feel the same way, just like every other New Yorker in the state: That it\u2019s too expensive under Gov. Kathy Hochul and they can no longer afford it,\u201d Fay said. \u201cAccording to the Empire Center<\/a>, over a million people have left this state over the past five years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Similarly, the Cornell Program on Applied Demographics<\/a> found that New York state’s population has declined by 1% since the 2020 Census, but the population remained stable and even saw a slight .01% increase in 2025. \u00a0<\/p>\n

The Hochul campaign directed Capital Tonight to a campaign spokesman\u2019s comments in the New York Post<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201cNew York has added more than 800,000 jobs since Governor Hochul took office, edging out even San Francisco for the most tech jobs in America, at the same time that she\u2019s invested billions in public safety and lowered costs on everything from car insurance to child care \u2013 while Bruce Blakeman\u2019s constituents have to shoulder the two property tax hikes he voted for, and an ICE partnership that only causes chaos and hurts Long Island\u2019s economy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The election is Nov. 3.<\/p>\n
