A Long Island couple is hoping to reunite a stranger with a lost diamond they found on the floor of a Times Square restaurant.

Michelle and Jennifer DeLucia were walking into Tony DiNapoli’s before a Broadway show when Michelle spotted something sparkling near the entrance.

After taking a closer look, Michelle discovered the stone was an engraved diamond with a certification number from the International Gemological Institute (IGI), one of the world’s largest diamond grading organizations.

“I realized it was engraved. And to be engraved meant it was actually a diamond,” Michelle said. “So in that moment I looked at my wife and said, ‘I want to find whose diamond this is.'”

Using the report number, NBC New York contacted the IGI, which confirmed details about the diamond, including its cut, carat weight, color, clarity and original purchase date. Those details are being withheld so a rightful owner can verify the stone.

Rather than keep the diamond, the DeLucias immediately set out to find its owner. They say it’s not the first time they’ve returned a lost item.

Jennifer recalled helping reunite a New Zealand visitor with a passport they found in Times Square years ago.

“For me, it’s more important for them to have it back,” Michelle said. “I don’t know this person’s story. It could be so sentimental to them.”
