{"id":354959,"date":"2026-09-23T20:30:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-23T20:30:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/354959\/"},"modified":"2026-09-23T20:30:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-23T20:30:09","slug":"investigation-launched-after-ex-con-arrested-for-bringing-gun-into-bronx-courtroom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/354959\/","title":{"rendered":"Investigation launched after ex-con arrested for bringing gun into Bronx courtroom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The state Office of Court Administration is investigating how an ex-con managed to\u00a0show up in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/site\/dcas\/business\/dcasmanagedbuildings\/bronx-hall-of-justice.page\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bronx courtroom<\/a> with a gun tucked in his underwear, authorities said Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Jamal Frett, 26, entered\u00a0the Bronx\u2019s Hall of Justice on E. 161st St. at about 11:10 a.m. on Monday and told court officers by the front entrance that he was wearing a law enforcement monitor on his left ankle, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nycourts.gov\/about-us\/office-court-administration-oca\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Office of Court Administration <\/a>said.<\/p>\n<p>Frett walked through a metal detector, which went off. Court officers noted the ankle monitor and used a handheld scanner on Frett. They also patted him down, but found no weapon, OCA said.<\/p>\n<p>Frett then headed to Judge Guy Mitchell\u2019s courtroom, where court officers chastised him for talking on his phone. He was told he had to leave and, as he was being escorted out, Frett resisted arrest and threatened court officers, according to court documents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t f\u2014\u2013g touch me,\u201d he allegedly said. \u201cCome see me outside (if) you want some!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When he was finally subdued, officers found the gun, a loaded .380-caliber Ruger, on him. Frett, charged with weapons possession and resisting arrest, was arraigned and ordered held without bail.<\/p>\n<p>The OCA is investigating the security breach.
