A new school annex will provide more than 300 seats to the North Shore of Staten Island.<\/p>\n
A 316-seat addition will be built at 1055 Targee St., in Grasmere, to provide more seats for PS 9, according to the School Construction Authority. The addition, which is currently in the design phase, will be built on the grounds of the existing school property.<\/p>\n
It is slated to welcome students for the 2030-2031 school year, according to the city. <\/p>\n
PS 9 occupies the space that once belonged to PS 48, which opened a new pre-K to eighth grade school across the street in 2013.<\/p>\n
The annexes come as New York City opens new buildings and annexes to provide more seats to help meet state requirements on class sizes.<\/p>\n
The annex is one of several that will open on Staten Island in the coming years, including an annex for PS 13 in Rosebank<\/a>, which is slated to open with 283 seats in September 2027, and a new annex for Curtis High School<\/a>, which will provide another 800 seats.<\/p>\n New buildings will also open in the next few years, including the brand-new educational complex at the former St. John Villa school campus<\/a> in Arrochar, which consists of three new schools<\/a>.
