{"id":355125,"date":"2026-09-23T23:32:58","date_gmt":"2026-09-23T23:32:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/355125\/"},"modified":"2026-09-23T23:32:58","modified_gmt":"2026-09-23T23:32:58","slug":"elon-university-announces-new-name-for-queens-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/355125\/","title":{"rendered":"Elon University announces new name for Queens University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Elon University President Connie Book, along with Queens University Acting President Jesse Cureton, announced the new official name for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elonnewsnetwork.com\/article\/2025\/09\/elon-university-announces-merger-with-queens-university-of-charlotte\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">merged universities<\/a>: \u201cElon University | Queens College.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The announcement came Sept. 23 during a one-year update presentation hosted at Queens and livestreamed to Elon staff on campus. It also included a merger progress update and next steps, such as recent achievements and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elonnewsnetwork.com\/article\/2026\/02\/elon-queens-university-merger-team-makes-plans-for-the-joint-institution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">accreditation process<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Book said there are four long-term goals she called pledges that provide a framework for what&#8217;s to come. The pledges came from the work completed through their SOAR Strategic Planning Committee, a joint coalition that has been working throughout the year to guide the merger.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After the presentation, Book sent an email to students, faculty and staff, detailing those pledges. It included goals to expand engaged learning, become a partner with communities in Charlotte, expand on Queens\u2019 presence in Charlotte, and provide faculty and staff with competitive benefits, compensation and culture<\/p>\n<p>Beginning July 1, multiple departments at Elon and Queens <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elonnewsnetwork.com\/article\/2026\/04\/elon-queens-university-enter-next-stage-of-merger\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">officially merged<\/a>, including admissions, human resources and benefit plans.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the first year, the merger moved from intention to implementation,\u201d Book wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to Book, students based on the Elon campus will have the chance to go to Charlotte for academic and career experiences.
