A Bronx mom grieving the senseless murder of her 12-year-old boy<\/a> just ripped the mask off State Attorney General Tish James, who puts primping and preening for the national spotlight ahead of serving the regular people of New York.<\/p>\n

Migdalia Martinez slammed the AG <\/a>for doing nothing about soaring crime as she endorsed challenger Saritha Komatireddy.<\/p>\n

That highlights the stark contrast between two candidates: A political hack who helped destroy law enforcement in New York against a smart, serious prosecutor who has sent major drug traffickers and terrorists to prison.<\/p>\n

Felony assault<\/a> in New York City is up a staggering 44% since James took office in 2019, and the scene underground is even more grisly, with a 59% rise in subway felony assault.<\/p>\n

Tish James and her flacks say her office doesn\u2019t focus on \u201clocal crime,\u201d but that\u2019s a dodge.<\/p>\n

As first Eliot Spitzer and then Andrew Cuomo showed when they held the job, New York\u2019s attorney general has enormous power and authority \u2014 if she cares to use it.<\/p>\n

Tish James obviously doesn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

An AG can find ways to take on local crime, e.g. by stepping up against cross-county crews \u2014 which in New York City simply means operating in more than one borough \u2014 or when local prosecutors are otherwise overwhelmed or conspicuously incompetent.<\/p>\n

But Tish James has no desire to put in that extra work.<\/p>\n

After all, she\u2019s spent her 25 years in elected office pushing to dismantle the machinery of public safety.<\/p>\n

She backed the decriminalization<\/a> of \u201cminor\u201d criminal offenses, \u201cRaise the Age<\/a>\u201d legislation, \u201cno-cash-bail\u201d<\/a> and discovery reform, the \u201cRight to Know\u201d and \u201cHow Many Stops\u201d acts, closing Rikers, the \u201cchokehold\u201d ban and pot legalization. <\/p>\n

Her top public-safety priority? To end traffic stops<\/a> for minor violations, because they \u201coften end in violence,\u201d she frets . . . not mentioning that that\u2019s only when the perp flees.<\/p>\n

James falls down in other areas: The office is supposed to keep nonprofits honest<\/a> and fight fraud<\/a> in Medicaid and other public programs; she can\u2019t be bothered, as she has other fish to fry<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Komatireddy is a seasoned prosecutor (with solid service under Democrats as well as Republicans) who knows that fighting crime is actually the top cop\u2019s job No. 1; the more New Yorkers learn of her, the more they\u2019ll see she\u2019s far better for the AG job.<\/p>\n
