Starting Salary Range: $57,000 \u2013 $70,000<\/p>\n
Schedule: This is a full-time (35 hours\/week) position set to begin as soon as possible in October 2026.<\/p>\n
The Education Coordinator works:<\/p>\n
September through June: Tuesday-Saturday, except for mid-December\u00a0 mid-February.<\/p>\n
July and August: Monday to Friday\u00a0<\/p>\n
Work hours are 9AM \u2013 5PM at 1490 Sheridan Blvd, Bronx NY 10459.<\/p>\n
Occasional evening and additional weekend work is required.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Position Overview<\/p>\n
The Education Coordinator is responsible for leading educational programming on the Bronx River and promoting the Bronx River as an educational resource for schools and community organizations. The Education Coordinator is essential in creating opportunities for the community to understand and appreciate the ecological and social history of the Bronx River. A successful Education Coordinator will build and maintain relationships with formal and informal educators in schools and community organizations, by offering support to those who wish to incorporate the river into their programming. The responsibilities of the Education Coordinator are essential to maintaining and creating educational initiatives surrounding the Bronx River in alignment with Alliance goals.<\/p>\n
Responsibilities and Duties:<\/p>\n
Promote the Bronx River as an educational resource for schools, formal & informal educators, and community organizations; build and cultivate relationships with educators<\/p>\n
Update and develop new lesson plans consistent with ecological initiatives on the river, including litter, water quality, climate change, and pollinators.<\/p>\n
Manage the EELS (Environmental Education and Leadership for Students) 12-month internship, including student recruitment, teaching lessons, managing field trips, and managing\/recruiting research mentors.<\/p>\n
Coordinate and manage the EELS Alumni Network including engaging EELS alumni and organizing alumni events and opportunities.<\/p>\n
Participate in the New York City Science Research and Mentoring Consortium including attending Consortium meetings and events.<\/p>\n
Coordinate grant-funded and fee-based educational field trips and other\u00a0 programming visits for K-12 students.<\/p>\n
Organize and lead professional development opportunities for formal and informal educators, typically in partnership with a CTLE-accredited partner organization and lead quarterly Environmental Education Team Meetings.<\/p>\n
Grant management, including drafting grant reports, tracking deliverables and expenses, managing vendor quotes, purchase orders, check payments, etc.<\/p>\n
Enter program data and track grant budgets, metrics, and deliverables using organization databases and project management tools (eg Asana). Track progress on grant deliverables & budgets; draft reports with development team.<\/p>\n
Collaborate with development and program staff to write compelling funding proposals\/renewals, budgets and reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Provide content for external communications, email, social media. Help create digital content for the newsletters, website, and social media platforms.<\/p>\n
Administrative functions: manage waivers, data entry, etc.<\/p>\n
Collaborate with other Alliance program coordinators on projects and programs that forward the organizational mission.<\/p>\n
Represent the Alliance through participation in community outreach and have the ability to speak knowledgeably about our work<\/p>\n
Ensure River House is a well-maintained, welcoming, vibrant community facility.<\/p>\n

Bronx or lower Westchester residency preferred.<\/p>\n
This position reports to the Ecology and Education Manager, and supervises an Education Associate.<\/p>\n

The Education Coordinator should have a passion for nature, leading tours and working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including hot\/cold temperatures and rain.<\/p>\n
Qualifications:<\/p>\n
A Bachelor\u2019s degree in Environmental Studies, Biology, Ecology, or equivalent work experience.<\/p>\n
A minimum of two years professional experience related to duties above; experience in community or environmental education, community organizing or outreach preferred.<\/p>\n
Experience leading field trips independently in the Bronx or a similar urban environment.<\/p>\n
Experience with the K-12 public education system, knowledge of New York State and City educational standards and curriculum or program development experience strongly preferred.<\/p>\n
Experience writing and editing proposals, grant reports, engaging curricula, and promotional materials, and a basic understanding of grant funded programs.<\/p>\n
Experience supervising staff and interns.<\/p>\n
Knowledge of ecological principles related to river systems and experience with field research and data collection preferred.<\/p>\n
Ability to adapt education style to all ages of learning.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ability to lead field work, walking tours and other outdoor, active programs. Ability to canoe or kayak or commitment to learn paddling skills.<\/p>\n
Ability to navigate social media platforms for educational outreach.<\/p>\n
Ability to work with diverse constituencies. Spanish language proficiency preferred.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ability to complete a background check.<\/p>\n
Valid New York State driver\u2019s license and ability to drive.<\/p>\n
Proficiency in Google Suite, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and other web-based tools.<\/p>\n
Ability to lift and carry objects up to 25lbs.<\/p>\n
