She asked her friends if she should get her license and go into real estate. They said yes, and she did.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI started with my first listing for $400,000 and had an open house every weekend,\u201d Muss said. \u201cIt was like the Faberg\u00e9 ad for those who are old enough to remember. Those people told two friends, and then those people told two friends, and voila \u2014 I was in business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Commercial Observer caught up with Muss in September for a series called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/commercialobserver.com\/tag\/get-to-know-the-broker\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Get to Know the Broker<\/a>,\u201d where we connect with residential brokers to learn more about what makes them tick.<\/p>\n<p>This conversation has been edited for length and clarity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Commercial Observer: What has been the biggest deal of your career so far?<\/p>\n<p>Lauren Muss: I have sold a few penthouses in the $40 million to $50 million range at the Pierre, 160 Leroy Street, the Baccarat and 33 East 74th Street. This year alone, I\u2019ve sold a few townhouses, units at the Surrey, 70 Vestry, 200 East 79th Street, and in a new developments in the $20 million range.<\/p>\n<p>What is your career Everest?<\/p>\n<p>I think I\u2019ve actually reached my most ambitious goal: building a team of seven professionals, each with 12 to 23 years in the business, who work with me rather than for me.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Clients can work directly alongside any of them, not just me. I have no assistants, everyone is trained to work the way I learned, with full ownership over what they handle.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Someone once asked if I was afraid of losing clients to my own team members. I told them that\u2019s the goal. Not one team member has ever left.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s something you think people would be surprised to learn about you?<\/p>\n<p>That I have a sensitive side.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s your go-to takeout order?<\/p>\n<p>Chicken paillard, a little protein and a little salad.<\/p>\n<p>What TV show are you currently binging?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLioness,\u201d \u201cDutton Ranch,\u201d \u201cTed Lasso\u201d and \u201cLucky.\u201d I just finished \u201cMargot Has Money Problems\u201d as well as \u201cYour Friends and Neighbors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What is your silliest pet peeve?<\/p>\n<p>Plastic in bathroom garbage cans, when the toilet seat is up, and anything out that should be put away. Clutter.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s on your Spotify playlist?<\/p>\n<p>Fleetwood Mac, America, James Taylor, Neil Young, Lenny Kravitz, Pink Floyd, Sting, U2 and Sofi Tukker, but it goes on.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Who is your favorite architect\/interior designer?<\/p>\n<p>There are so many architects past and current like Candella, and then there is Studio Sofield, AM Stern for 220 Central Park South and 70 Vestry, and Herzog and de Meuron. But, by far, my favorite interior designer is Julie Hillman.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s your most entertaining deal story?\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Have any of them been entertaining? Entertaining implies fun.
