Good news, Yang stans! The Bowen Yang<\/a> administration at Broadway’s\u00a0Oh, Mary!<\/a> has officially been extended into 2027.\u00a0SNL favorite Yang, who began a run in the Cole Escola<\/a> play’s title role September 15, had been expected to stay with the production through December 6. He’ll now continue through January 17, 2027.<\/p>\n

The rest of the current cast is sticking around, too, with\u00a0Phillip James Brannon<\/a> as Mary’s Husband, Bianca Leigh<\/a> as Mary’s Chaperone, Barrett Foa<\/a> as Mary’s Teacher, and Tony Macht<\/a> as Mary’s Husband’s Assistant.\u00a0Understudies Hannah Solow, Martin Landry<\/a>, Julian Manjerico<\/a>, and Jackie Sanders<\/a> round out the company.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy friendship with Cole has brought me many places over the years: late-night pizzerias, cross-borough social-distance walks, a tough production of Les Mis\u00e9rables<\/a> sung in Dutch,\u201d said Yang in a previous statement. \u201cBut being part of their deranged and profound masterpiece, Oh, Mary!, is my favorite one by far. I will spend the rest of my life thanking them for the best Broadway debut a cis gay guy with limited singing ability could ask for.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tickets are on sale through July 10, 2027. Casting for after Yang’s final bow is to be announced.<\/p>\n

Escola’s comedy centers on Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. In Escola’s demented take (or as press notes put it, “through the lens of an idiot”), Mary Todd becomes a madcap, cabaret-obsessed alcoholic.<\/p>\n

The piece premiered at Off-Broadway’s Lucille Lortel Theatre in 2024 in a run that was extended three times. It then transferred to Broadway later that year, where it’s been breaking box-office records at the Lyceum Theatre; it became the first show in the theatre\u2019s 121-year history to gross more than $1 million in a single week.<\/p>\n

The show earned two 2025 Tony Awards: Lead Actor in a Play for Escola and Director of a Play for Sam Pinkleton<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Oh, Mary’s creative team includes scenic designer dots, costume designer Holly Pierson<\/a>, lighting designer Cha See<\/a>, composer and co-sound designer Daniel Kluger<\/a>, co-sound designer Drew Levy<\/a>, wig designer Leah J. Loukas, and music arranger David Dabbon<\/a>. Casting is by Henry Russell Bergstein<\/a>. John C.
