{"id":356006,"date":"2026-09-24T20:06:13","date_gmt":"2026-09-24T20:06:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/356006\/"},"modified":"2026-09-24T20:06:13","modified_gmt":"2026-09-24T20:06:13","slug":"the-fatal-flaw-in-new-yorks-climate-superfund-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/356006\/","title":{"rendered":"The fatal flaw in New York\u2019s climate Superfund law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2024, the New York state Legislature decided the state needed some money \u2014 $75 billion, to be exact \u2014 for \u201ccomprehensive adaptation to the effects of <a href=\"https:\/\/amny.com\/environment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">climate change<\/a> in New York state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Legislature thought it had found a good way to get the money \u2014 by taking it pro rata from every \u201centity\u201d that, between 2000 and 2024, was in the business of \u201cextracting fossil fuel or refining crude oil\u201d and was responsible for more than a billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
