Every September, world leaders descend on Manhattan for the United Nations, and every September, Queen M\u00e1xima of the Netherlands makes the city’s sidewalks her personal runway. This year is no exception.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Dutch queen is back in New York for the UN’s High-Level Week and the 81st session of the General Assembly, and while her schedule is strictly business, her wardrobe has been anything but predictable.<\/p>\n

Queen Maxima<\/a>‘s latest look was chosen for a meeting with Wall Street Journal CEO Almar Latour\u00a0at Journal House. The centerpiece is a midi-length blue dress from Natan, the Belgian fashion house she has turned to again and again over the years.<\/p>\n

It’s the kind of dress that works overtime. Polished enough for a wedding outfit, relaxed enough for the office, it defines the waist with a matching tie belt and has the easy elegance of a true wardrobe staple. What keeps it from feeling too buttoned-up are the sleeves: they open at the sides and drape around the shoulders, adding just enough movement to steer clear of anything severe.<\/p>\n

Then came the accessories. Rather than match her blue dress, M\u00e1xima<\/a> deliberately went the other way, pairing it with red slingback pumps. The shoes are also by Natan, in a style called the Marmo, which the queen first wore on June 5, 2026. She owns the same design in pale pink too, which she debuted on September 17.<\/p>\n

It’s a telling choice for a royal known for her love of colorful head-to-toe monochrome.\u00a0<\/p>\n

M\u00e1xima has long leaned on single-color looks as a reliable win, but on this New York trip, she appears to be in the mood to experiment. A couple of days earlier, she combined pink and red, two shades that clash on paper yet complement each other in practice.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This time, she applied the same contrast formula and layered on another of her signature tricks: allowing her accessories to completely transform the finished look.<\/p>\n

The result is proof that a working wardrobe doesn’t have to play it safe. Even in the most institutional of settings, M\u00e1xima knows how to leave an impression, and this week, it took nothing more than a blue dress and a pair of very unexpected pair of red shoes.<\/p>\n
