Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a> tore into Mayor Zohran Mamdani during a Thursday address to the UN<\/a> \u2014 claiming \u201cJews no longer feel safe\u201d in New York City under Hizzoner.<\/p>\n

Netanyahu ripped the socialist mayor for \u201cfalsely, repeatedly\u201d accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza, noting that Mamdani tried to silence him by calling for his arrest ahead of the UN General Assembly in Midtown.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Mamdani, since you were elected mayor of this city, many Jews no longer feel safe in New York<\/a>,\u201d Netanyahu said. \u201cThey talk to me. They tell me this isn\u2019t the city we remember. It changed so quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Israeli PM erupted, \u201cNow it\u2019s no wonder you praise criminals convicted of supporting Hamas \u2014 you count as friends people like Hasan Piker<\/a>, who said \u2026 America deserved 9\/11. Some friends you have.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYour wife liked to post praising the Oct. 7 massacre<\/a>. She liked another post saying Tel Aviv shouldn\u2019t exist,\u201d Netanyahu continued. \u201cYou refused to condemn any of that. You falsely, repeatedly accuse Israel of genocide.\u201d<\/p>\n

The defiant Israeli leader added: \u201cMr. Mamdani, you tried to stop me from coming here. You tried to silence me. Well, you can\u2019t silence me.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t silence the truth. And here is the simple truth\u2026 Israel didn\u2019t commit genocide. Israel prevented genocide,\u201d Netanyahu said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s exactly what Mr. Mamdani\u2019s Hamas buddies would have done to us had we not stopped them\u201d on Oct. 7, 2023, he added. \u201cThey would have killed every last one of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mamdani, who took office in January, has long been an outspoken critic of Israel, repeatedly vowing on the campaign trail that he\u2019d order Netanyahu\u2019s arrest, despite the NYPD having no power to cuff a foreign dignitary.<\/p>\n

But in July, the young socialist later dropped a performative video admitting that his admin had failed to find a loophole to arrest Netanyahu on a warrant from the International Criminal Court, whose authority the US does not recognize.<\/p>\n

But he still branded Netanyahu a \u201cwar criminal\u201d and at first encouraged anti-Israel demonstrators to take to the streets, before later walking back the comments.<\/p>\n

Mamdani confirmed he wouldn\u2019t take part in protests against the prime minister during the 2026 General Assembly \u2014 though several of his Democratic Socialists of America comrades<\/a> were arrested by the NYPD Thursday for civil disobedience outside the UN building.<\/p>\n

Hizzoner, instead, posted a video during Netanyahu\u2019s speech<\/a> that featured Palestinian families planting an olive tree with him in a pot at Gracie Mansion.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the prime minister slammed him over the rise in antisemitic attacks in the city this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe lies you and other antisemites spread about the Jews and the Jewish state have real consequences,\u201d he said, adding,\u00a0 \u201cIn New York, Jews are threatened on the way to synagogue. Jews have been stabbed in the streets<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cJews are demonized, targeted. They\u2019re targeted simply for being Jews.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anti-Jewish hate crimes have surged by 8%<\/a> in the Big Apple so far this year, according to NYPD statistics.<\/p>\n

Overall hate crimes are up just over 15% through August, with 425 incidents recorded in the first eight months of the year compared to 367 over the same time period in 2025.<\/p>\n

But antisemitic acts account for the majority of incidents, with 229 reports of anti-Jewish hate crimes, according to the latest police data, which also showed 27 anti-Muslim attacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs he has done time and again, Prime Minister Netanyahu used his speech to repeat baseless lies meant to sanitize his genocide of Palestinians,\u201d Mamdani said in a statement after the address.\u00a0<\/p>\n
