Two candidates for Brooklyn Park mayor will be on the general election ballot Nov. 3, giving voters the choice between an incumbent mayor and a current council member.<\/p>\n
Mayor Hollies J. Winston is running for a second term against Shelle Page, who is just under two years into her first term serving the Central District on the Brooklyn Park City Council.<\/p>\n
The Aug. 11 primary election narrowed a four-person candidate pool down to two. Council Member Maria Tran conceded after losing the primary, while former Council Member Boyd Morson announced he is running as a write-in candidate.<\/p>\n
The candidate who wins this fall will serve a four-year term beginning in January 2027.<\/p>\n

The SAFE Act provides continuing education quarterly and standards for testing and scoring must be met.<\/p>\n What is one short-term goal you would fight for if elected to serve as Brooklyn Park mayor for the next four years, and what is a long-term goal you would hope to achieve by the time that term expires?<\/p>\n When I am elected \u2026 I would work to strengthen community bonds, organizing fellow elected officials to work WITH each other. Our city, and frankly the world, has been completely divided for some time. Leadership means putting attitude, effort and heart into doing what is right for the community and not self-serving. Long term, it is necessary to revitalize aging parts of our city and create revenue sources previously overlooked or under-managed. Future growth of the tax base is key. We must connect with Brooklyn Park businesses NOW and ask what they need to be successful in our city.<\/p>\n The Brooklyn Park Police Department has reported a consistent reduction in crime for multiple years in a row, in contrast with some residents’ perception of crime rates in the city. To what do you attribute this discrepancy, and how might the city address it?<\/p>\n I am with many residents: the narrative is a long standing thought, and with social media, we don’t capture what most of us feel and see as we raise our families in. That being said, the world is not as safe as it once was …\u00a0with a growing population, those stats are going to be up. I would continue to support our chiefs and leaders in police to continue to community engage and answer the tough questions. I think they have done an incredible job showing trust in our city and are always committed to doing more.<\/p>\n Brooklyn Park has recently increased it lobbying efforts at the Minnesota Capitol. What policies should the city prioritize when advocating in St. Paul, and what is the mayor’s role in pushing for those policies?\u00a0<\/p>\n In all that we do, the Mayor sets an example for collaboration and leads the positive efforts that ALL of council and residents share. We must continue to focus on our saturation of Congregate Care\/Group homes and continue to advocate for our city. We must press our State partners to understand the growing strain on our emergency services and the countless care concerns for some of our most vulnerable residents. Polices that allow inspections, licensing and financial support from the state must be attended to.<\/p>\n What is the best way for voters to contact you?<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
