A New York City Episcopal priest sparked outrage by claiming that Jesus Christ was transgender and that God is nonbinary \u2014 a belief once shared by seminarian and Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico.<\/a><\/p>\n

Father Flourish Klink, who is nonbinary and transgender, made the outlandish assertions during a recent sermon at Christ & St. Stephen\u2019s Episcopal Church on the Upper West Side.<\/p>\n

\u201cGod is nonbinary,\u201d Klink startlingly exclaimed, according to a livestream clip shared on X Wednesday.<\/a> \u201cBut I\u2019m going to go further than that, and I\u2019m going to say God is actually also trans.\u201d<\/p>\n

Father Flourish Klink, a nonbinary and transgender priest with the Episcopal Church, Diocese of New York, claimed Jesus is transgender and God is nonbinary during a recent sermon on the Upper West Side. X\/The Dissenter<\/p>\n

Klink, who prefers \u201cthey\/elle\/hen\u201d pronouns, went on to describe how transgender people are given a gender by \u201cfolks based on what they see\u201d when they are born \u2014 and used it as grounds to why \u201cGod is trans.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we\u2019re old enough, we realize that wasn\u2019t right and we\u2019re not, in our deepest selves, the gender that everyone thought we were. Reasonable working definition of a trans person, right?\u201d Klink asked the congregants.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen God, who \u2013 as we have established is nonbinary \u2013 was born in human form as our Lord Jesus Christ, Mary said, \u2018Oh look, a baby boy.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Klink, who has a spouse and daughter, paused for a second before claiming, \u201cGod isn\u2019t a boy, we have established this. God is beyond boy and girl.<\/p>\n

\u201cGod was assigned a gender at birth, and later on it became clear that that gender wasn\u2019t right.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo if you\u2019re gonna deny that God is trans, I think you\u2019re going to be denying the divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ and I have some notes about that,\u201d Klink said.<\/p>\n

Klink continued the sermon, alleging Jesus didn\u2019t live the traditional life of a man from the first century by not getting married and instead chose to teach and engage with women in unusual ways \u2014 instead of the \u201ctraditionally masculine way.\u201d<\/p>\n

The priest used details from the Bible on how Jesus looked different after his resurrection as proof he was trans.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was something different about Jesus,\u201d Klink said before admitting the Bible doesn\u2019t directly say what was different.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Bible doesn\u2019t tell us why it is that Jesus\u2019 best friends, his disciples, the people who had walked with him to the end of his life, the people who had buried him in the tomb when it was politically difficult, who were committed to him still didn\u2019t recognize Jesus for a good long time,\u201d Klink added.<\/p>\n

\u201cMary didn\u2019t say \u2018oh look a baby boy\u2019 and decided his gender!? This is a lie. The angel Gabriel says \u2018You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus,’\u201d another pointed out.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a special place in hell for these pernicious blasphemers,\u201d a third added.<\/p>\n

The viral X post was given a community note to include several Bible verses contradicting Klink\u2019s belief.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore his birth, during his life, & after Jesus rose, he was always referred to as a male.\u201d \u201cGabriel tells Mary she will bear a son & to name him Jesus (Luke 1:31\u201332). \u201cWoman, behold your son (John 19:26)\u201d the note exclaims.<\/p>\n

Klink\u2019s views follow Talarico\u2019s similar remarks, but the pol has since backtracked<\/a> as he seeks victory in the closely watched Senate race against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.<\/p>\n

\u201cGod is both masculine and feminine and everything in between. God is nonbinary,\u201d Talarico said on the State House Floor back in 2021 when he was a state Rep.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was being provocative with that statement. I get that,\u201d Talarico admitted, explaining, \u201cWhat I was trying to say is that you can\u2019t use human categories to define God, and that\u2019s not controversial theologically. In fact, the late Charlie Kirk, the late Pope Benedict all said the same thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
