Alfred LoPinto first became involved in Catholic Charities Brooklyn &amp; Queens 60 years ago. It was 1966, and Msgr. LoPinto was a young man preparing to enter seminary when, he recalled, the pastor of his church talked him into working for Catholic Charities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said, \u2018You\u2019re going to do this. You\u2019re going to run the summer program for kids,\u2019 \u201d Msgr. LoPinto remembered the pastor telling him. \u201cThat was the beginning of a journey that has taken me to places I could never imagine.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Msgr. LoPinto, who retired as president and CEO of Catholic Charities Brooklyn &amp; Queens (CCBQ) on June 30, was lauded for his service at the organization\u2019s annual <a href=\"https:\/\/thetablet.org\/bishops-humanitarian-dinner-2025-catholic-charities-brooklyn-queens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Bishop\u2019s Humanitarian Award Dinner<\/a> at Cipriani Wall Street on Sept. 24.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He served as head of CCBQ for 13 years and was succeeded by <a href=\"https:\/\/thetablet.org\/father-patrick-keating-appointed-president-ceo-of-catholic-charities-brooklyn-and-queens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Father Patrick Keating<\/a>, the deputy CEO.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-282029\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Romano-Brennan-LoPinto-Keating.jpg\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-282029\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Romano-Brennan-LoPinto-Keating.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"  \/>Msgr. Robert Romano (left) and Bishop Robert Brennan.<\/p>\n<p>At the dinner, which was attended by 750 people, Bishop Robert Brennan and Father Keating presented Msgr. LoPinto with the Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan Service Award, an honor named in memory of Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan (1930-2013), an auxiliary bishop of Brooklyn who served as executive director of\u00a0CCBQ\u00a0from 1968 to 1979.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The dinner, which serves as a fundraiser for CCBQ, raised $1.8 million, according to officials.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Brennan served as the dinner\u2019s honorary chair, and <a href=\"https:\/\/thetablet.org\/brooklyn-monsignor-remembers-world-trade-center-scene-on-9-11\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Msgr. Robert Romano,<\/a> pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Dyker Heights, emceed for the evening.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Three honorees received a Bishop\u2019s Humanitarian Award.
