A strong nor\u2019easter<\/a> is set to rip into New York City and bring coastal flooding and winds as strong as 50 mph, with the storm threatening to linger into Monday. <\/p>\n

High winds first hit the region Friday morning, with the rain forecasted to begin on Long Island before rolling into the city as early as 8 p.m., Accuweather\u00a0senior meteorologist Kerry Schwindenhammer told The Post.<\/p>\n

The worst of the storm is expected to hit on Saturday, with high winds, powerful rain, and the harvest moon setting up the perfect conditions for coastal flooding<\/a> along the metro area and the Jersey shore<\/p>\n

Coastal flooding advisories will be in effect for the New York metro area due to high winds, abundant rain and Saturday\u2019s full moon. REUTERS<\/p>\n

\u201cThis storm has been moving slowly, so we\u2019re tracking this as a long duration event,\u201d Schwindenhammer said. \u201cThe worst of it will be on Saturday and into Sunday.\u201d <\/p>\n

Coastal flood and wind advisories are set to take effect on Friday afternoon and last until 6 p.m. Sunday, but the storm\u2019s power and slow movement could easily last into Monday, Schwindenhammer added. <\/p>\n

The nor\u2019easter has also been tracking a bit more south than originally predicted, so the Jersey shore could see the worst of the flooding \u2014 thanks in part to Saturday\u2019s full moon. <\/p>\n

The high winds, which are forecasted to reach 60 mph on Long Island, could also threaten to bring down trees and powerlines in the area. <\/p>\n

Manhattan is expected to see up to 2 inches of rain throughout the weekend, with Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island and Long Island expected to see between 2 to 4 inches, according to Accuweather. <\/p>\n

The New York City Emergency Management office has warned residents to avoid traveling if possible starting Friday at 2 p.m. due to the high winds. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe storm\u2019s expected path has shifted closer to our city, bringing heavier rain and stronger winds,\u201d Mayor Zohran Mamdani <\/a>wrote on X. \u201cIf you live in a basement apartment, know your way out and be prepared to move to a higher floor if conditions become dangerous.\u201d <\/p>\n

Gov. Hochul warned those in the city, Long island and lower Mid-Hudson area to take processions over the weekend while the state monitors the situation. <\/p>\n

\u201cWith a significant coastal storm starting to impact New York State, we are actively monitoring the track of the storm and any potential impacts,\u201d Governor Hochul said. <\/p>\n
