{"id":357034,"date":"2026-09-25T20:44:25","date_gmt":"2026-09-25T20:44:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/357034\/"},"modified":"2026-09-25T20:44:25","modified_gmt":"2026-09-25T20:44:25","slug":"fire-at-bronx-subway-station-disrupts-service-on-the-2-line","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/357034\/","title":{"rendered":"Fire at Bronx subway station disrupts service on the 2 line"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A fire broke out at an elevated subway platform in the Bronx Friday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It happened at the Wakefield-241 Street subway station along White Plains Road, the terminal station on the 2 line.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The fire broke out at around 9:49 a.m. in a storage area that is also used as a locker room. No injuries were reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The cause is under investigation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Video from the scene showed firefighters attacking a large volume of fire on the platform, sending plumes of smoke into the air.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I figured that it would explode, so it becomes very fiery, and there&#8217;s balls of black smoke,&#8221; one witness said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The safety operation of New York City Transit is now investigating the cause of that fire, but I emphasize it has been extinguished, no injuries,&#8221; MTA Chairman and CEO Janno Lieber said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The blaze impacted subway service. 2 train service between Gun Hill Road and Wakefield-241 Street was suspended due to the fire.
