(7News) \u2014 A 24-year-old New York man is facing charges after <a href=\"https:\/\/wjla.com\/topic\/Customs%20and%20Border%20Protection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Customs and Border Protection<\/a> agents seized <a href=\"https:\/\/wjla.com\/topic\/khat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">65 pounds of the drug khat<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/wjla.com\/topic\/dulles%20airport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dulles Airport.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bakari Wally was arrested at the airport on Thursday morning, according to a news release.<\/p>\n<p>RELATED | <a href=\"https:\/\/wjla.com\/news\/instagram\/khat-seized-dulles-airport-virginia-troopers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Virginia troopers arrest 2 men after 764 pounds of khat seized at Dulles Airport<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Wally was flagged by CBP as he was returning from Morocco. <\/p>\n<p>Investigators said they found the khat in his luggage with a street value of $8,000.<\/p>\n<p>Khat, according to CBP, is chewed for its amphetamine-like effect. Users also boil dried khat leaves to create a stimulant tea.<\/p>\n<p>CBP said there has been an increase in khat being smuggled into the area with more than 1,100 pounds seized at Dulles in August and more than 1,200 seized at <a href=\"https:\/\/wjla.com\/topic\/Baltimore%20Washington%20International%20Thurgood%20Marshall%20Airport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"DULLES, Va.
