Stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and text 333-111 for real-time updates,&#8221; Hochul says.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">She says to expect dangerous coastal flooding, strong winds and potential power outages through the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>MTA prepares to maintain safe, reliable service ahead of nor\u2019easter<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Sept. 25, 11:30 a.m.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">New York City travel systems will focus on maintaining safety and reliability throughout the nor\u2019easter this weekend.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">MTA CEO Janno Lieber says all agencies will have teams evaluate weather issues in real-time.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Wind is the biggest concern for the storm, especially after <a data-rich-text-hyperlink=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/longisland.news12.com\/service-restored-on-lirr-after-strong-winds-likely-knocked-down-utility-poles-west-of-bethpage\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">downed powerlines disrupted LIRR service<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">PSEG and LIPA leadership will be diligent and address any issues as they arise.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Lieber says MTA crews have been deployed at strategic locations so they can respond quickly and efficiently.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Empty tractor trailers and tandem trucks will also be banned from MTA bridges and tunnels starting at midnight.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Lieber also said the city\u2019s bus command center is fully staffed throughout the weekend. Reroute plans will allow the system to continue running despite possible flooding.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Vulnerable, flood prone areas will be monitored closely. Storm doors at Coney Island and Howard Beach have already been deployed. <\/p>\n<p>City urges people to take precautions during weekend nor&#8217;easter<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Sept. 25, 11:25 a.m.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Scattered wind damage, flooding and major costal impacts are all expected this upcoming weekend with the Nor&#8217;easter heading to the area.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">New York City Emergency Management is encouraging people to take extra precautions before traveling this weekend.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">A travel advisory has been issued starting Friday at 2 p.m. and lasting until Sunday at 6 a.m.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">New Yorkers should allow extra time to travel and check the transit status before leaving.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Car owners should try to avoid parking their cars in flood prone areas and avoid driving through more than 6 inches of water.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Homeowners are advised to bring loose outdoor items such as lawn furniture, garbage cans, or outdoor plants.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">People living in basement level, or ground-floor apartments should have an escape plan with more than one way out.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">They should also be prepared to move to higher floor of conditions worsen.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Dakota Lewis, a commuter, spoke to News 12 Friday morning about how the abrupt change in weather caught her off guard.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">&#8220;I am not looking forward to it.
