Dan Aykroyd revealed that he and his \u201cGhostbusters\u201d co-star Bill Murray once stole two \u201cfully equipped\u201d police motorcycles for their impromptu Central Park joyride.<\/p>\n
Aykroyd, who starred alongside Murray in the hit franchise, said that the pair \u201cappropriated\u201d the bikes from the \u201cGhostbusters II\u201d set during its 1988-89 shoot and took them for a late-night ride in New York City.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo many adventures over the years,\u201d Aykroyd wrote on Instagram<\/a> as he celebrated Murray\u2019s 76th birthday Wednesday, sharing two throwback photos of the longtime friends and co-stars.<\/p>\n Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray (above in 2021) took two police motorcycles for a joyride in New York City while filming \u201cGhostbusters II\u201d in the late 1980s. Getty Images<\/p>\n \u201cOne night shooting GB2, we appropriated two fully equipped police motorcycles from the movie\u2019s motor pool and spent an hour chasing each other around a closed Central Park with full lights and sirens.\u201d<\/p>\n Aykroyd clarified that the joyride didn\u2019t get the two actors into any trouble.<\/p>\n \u201cNo consequences. After all, we were Ghostbusters,\u201d he quipped.<\/p>\n Aykroyd, 74, also praised Murray in the touching birthday tribute as \u201cthe greatest comedy leading man of our time.\u201d<\/p>\n The two comedians first met in the 1970s as they were beginning their comedy careers.<\/p>\n Both eventually joined \u201cSaturday Night Live,\u201d<\/a> where Aykroyd was part of the original cast and Murray joined during the show\u2019s second season.<\/p>\n Their most famous collaboration came in 1984, when they starred in \u201cGhostbusters\u201d alongside Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson.<\/p>\n Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis in \u201cGhostbusters II,\u201d released in 1989.<\/p>\n The four original Ghostbusters reunited for \u201cGhostbusters II,\u201d released in 1989.<\/p>\n After Ramis\u2019 death in 2014 at age 69<\/a>, Aykroyd, Murray and Hudson made cameos in the 2016 reboot before reprising their original roles in \u201cGhostbusters: Afterlife\u201d in 2021 and \u201cGhostbusters: Frozen Empire\u201d in 2024.<\/p>\n
