Governor Kathy Hochul held a storm briefing Saturday morning as the Nor\u2019easter and coastal storm made way to New York State.<\/p>\n
The governor and state officials were gathered at the NYS Emergency Operations Center.<\/p>\n
On Friday, a state of emergency was declared for Bronx, Kings, Nassau, New York, Queens, Richmond, Suffolk, and Westchester Counties.<\/p>\n
State officials expect anywhere from 4-6 inches of rainfall on Long Island and 3-6 inches in NYC.<\/p>\n
During the briefing, the governor said the main concern of this storm is coastal flooding.<\/p>\n
Adding that during high tide is when the worst coastal flooding is expected<\/p>\n
A coastal warning is in effect, and with the full moon Saturday night, tides could be even worse<\/p>\n
At the height of the storm, it\u2019s expected to see roughly 60 mph winds, and officials are warning of flash flooding risks.<\/p>\n
As of Saturday morning, there were 22,000 power outages.<\/p>\n
State agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, Department of Transportation, Department of Environmental Conservation, New York State Police, and Fire officials, have been preparing for the storm for several days.<\/p>\n
According to the governor, state agencies are coordinating with local governments to offer support where needed.<\/p>\n
Suffolk and Nassau counties signed state of emergencies ahead of the storm.<\/p>\n
Both counties on Long Island have opened emergency resources<\/p>\n
The DOT has 34,000 members on the roads looking for damage.<\/p>\n
DOT Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez said there were 67 incidents on Long Island roadways alone due o the storm.<\/p>\n
There are roughly 5800 utility workers in the Downstate and Lower Hudson Valley ready to respond to any damage.<\/p>\n
If you have travel plans this weekend, Hochul said to expect flight delays and cancellations due to rain and wind.<\/p>\n
Residents are asked to report downed lines if you see them, don\u2019t drive through standing water, and be prepared for power outages.<\/p>\n
