The emotionally disturbed woman who was fatally shot by police in Times Square<\/a> after she stabbed two people, killing one of them, repeatedly challenged cops to \u201ccome get\u201d her because she was \u201ctired of this world,\u201d as officers tried to calm her down, NYPD body camera footage of the harrowing incident released Saturday shows.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re going to have to kill me,\u201d Pamela Cisneros told cops near the corner of Seventh Ave. and W. 43rd St. as she held two Farberware knives in front of her on the afternoon of Aug. 31.<\/p>\n

Arriving officers spent more than four minutes calmly talking to Cisneros, trying to get her to drop the knives, according to the body camera footage, but she wouldn\u2019t comply.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m tired of this world already,\u201d Cisneros, 49, said, according to the videos. \u201cI\u2019m tired of this s\u2014. I\u2019ve been through so much s\u2014 already.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moments earlier, Cisneros, who had a history of mental health issues<\/a>, had pulled the knives from a red Target bag and stabbed a 69-year-old man in the abdomen near W. 41st St. and Seventh Ave.<\/p>\n

Within 20 seconds, the violence continued as Cisneros headed north to W. 42nd St. and stabbed Erin Piacenti<\/a>, 32, of Chester, N.J., in the stomach, killing her. Piacenti was a vice president at nearby Bank of America. She had just returned to work that Monday after recently giving birth to a baby daughter.<\/p>\n

Police Officer Ryan Brito, one of the first cops to arrive at the scene, kept asking her what was going on and encouraged her to calm down.<\/p>\n

\u201cTalk to us,\u201d he implored Cisneros. \u201cWhat\u2019s going on? Breathe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCome get me,\u201d Cisneros reportedly told the officers.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not doing this now,\u201d another cop at the scene said, according to the video footage.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, you are.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not going to kill you,\u201d Brito assured her. \u201cWe don\u2019t want to fight you. Why would we want to do that? We\u2019re trying to help you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, you are. Yes, you are,\u201d Cisneros said calmly. \u201cEither that or I\u2019ll kill all of you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you believe in God?\u201d Brito asked her.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo. Not anymore,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m tired of this fight. I\u2019m tired of this world already.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe world is hard, especially in New York City,\u201d Brito said. \u201cI know New York City is hard. Trust me, we all suffer. But this is not the way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the only way out,\u201d Cisneros countered.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been through some s\u2014 myself,\u201d Brito said, trying to connect with Cisneros. \u201cI\u2019ve been where you at right now. I promise you. I used to work at Wendy\u2019s. I\u2019ve been down there.\u201d<\/p>\n

At one point, Cisneros seemed confused, asking the officers, \u201cYou two part of the show?\u201d<\/p>\n

With a half dozen cops surrounding her, Cisneros began pinwheeling her arms and swinging the knives as she charged at the officers. Two cops fired their tazers, but they weren\u2019t effective. As Cisneros got within a few feet of the officers, Police Officers Joseph O\u2019Connor and Steven Darcy pulled their weapons and fired off three rounds.<\/p>\n

Cisneros was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where she died.<\/p>\n

Neither O\u2019Connor nor Darcy has a disciplinary history with the NYPD. O\u2019Connor has been with the NYPD for four years. Darcy has three.<\/p>\n

The NYPD Force Investigations Division was investigating Cisneros\u2019 death.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was an extraordinarily dangerous situation unfolding in the heart of Times Square, the crossroads of the world,\u201d Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said following the shooting. \u201cOur officers were confronted with a rapidly evolving threat with countless innocent people around them. In that moment, they did what we trained them to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tisch said Cisneros has a history of mental health issues, including incidents in 2018 and 2019. Cisneros has no criminal record in New York City.<\/p>\n

New York City has struggled with the care and treatment of the mentally ill for years. The shutdown of large-scale psychiatric institutions left a void in the system, as the community-based care network that was supposed to fill the gap is widely seen as inadequate and underfunded.<\/p>\n

Relatives told the Daily News that Cisneros had a decades-long history of mental illness, including postpartum depression, multiple hospitalizations \u2014 and a suicide attempt in which she threw herself on the subway tracks. Because she had trouble taking daily psychiatric medication, Cisneros was prescribed monthly injections instead, her brother Patrick Peralta said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the last six years now, she was getting injections and nothing was wrong,\u201d he told The News following her death. \u201cAs long as she got the medication, she was fine \u2026 She never showed any violence towards anybody.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe used to go in person (to get the injections) and then I just found out that now she was doing it herself,\u201d he added. \u201cSo I don\u2019t know if she stopped doing it, because my parents are old and are they trying to check to make sure that she was getting injections. That\u2019s the only thing I can suggest, that maybe she didn\u2019t get the last couple of months of injections.\u201d<\/p>\n
