The DFA of Hampton and the optioning of pitcher Luis Perales to Triple-A opened a roster spot for lefty Connelly Early, who is set to be activated <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/26\/sports\/red-sox-adding-curtis-mead-from-nationals-in-trade-for-connelly-early\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">off the 60-day injured list<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The move comes just weeks after the Yankees cut ties with Hampton.<\/p>\n<p>The former Yankees prospect and 2022 sixth-round pick finishes this season with an 8.18 ERA over 55 innings across three levels of the minor leagues.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.68066406;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"   data-modal-image=\"41006538\" width=\"402\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/new-york-yankees-pitcher-chase-122678710.jpg\" alt=\"New York Yankees pitcher Chase Hampton in uniform holding a baseball.\" class=\"wp-image-41006538\"\/>New York Yankees pitcher Chase Hampton poses for a photo at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida, Tuesday, March 3, 2026. The year prior, during his first full professional season, he posted a 3.63 ERA in 20 starts at High-A and Double-A, striking out 145 and walking 37 over 106 2\/3 innings.<\/p>\n<p>But the 25-year-old has dealt with a series of injuries early in his career.<\/p>\n<p>He was limited to 18 2\/3 innings in 2024, and the following season, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/02\/25\/sports\/yankees-chase-hampton-at-peace-after-tommy-john-surgery\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tommy John surgery sidelined him<\/a> for more than a full year.<\/p>\n<p>After returning this season with the Yankees\u2019 Single-A affiliate in Tampa, Hampton struggled \u2014 in both A-ball and Double-A \u2014 to match his earlier results.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.84472656;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"   data-modal-image=\"41006560\" width=\"498\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/86-throwing-outfield-today-s-121322434.jpg\" alt=\"New York Yankees pitcher Chase Hampton throws a ball during spring training.\" class=\"wp-image-41006560\"\/>New York Yankees pitcher Chase Hampton throws in the outfield during a workout at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida, Saturday, February 14, 2026.
