A New York City Housing Authority worker died Saturday when a tree fell on him in East New York, near Cypress Hills Playground, as the city endured this weekend’s nor’easter.<\/a><\/p>\n

The victim, a 56-year-old man whose name was not been released, was struck by the tree while walking through a parking lot at 700 Euclid Ave, where the NYCHA Cypress Hills Houses complex is located.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can confirm that this individual was a NYCHA employee,” said Housing Authority Press Secretary Michael Hogan. “We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and the NYCHA community.\u201d It was not immediately clear if the worker was on-duty. He was walking through a parking lot when he was hit.<\/p>\n

The victim had been rushed to One Brooklyn Health-Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center where he died, New York City police said.<\/p>\n

The City’s Parks Dept. has inspectors and crews working\u00a0on 12-hour shifts throughout\u00a0the weekend, according to the agency, to respond to tree damage from the storm. <\/p>\n

“As of 6 p.m. today we have received 979 service requests for damaged or fallen trees, 356 of which are for downed trees. Many of these reports may be duplicates,” the Parks Dept. said.<\/p>\n

The city asks anyone who sees a hazardous tree condition to report it on the NYC Parks website<\/a>, through the NYC Tree Map<\/a> , or by calling 3-1-1.<\/p>\n

The city says if someone is in immediate danger or there is an emergency situation, the city asks you to call 9-1-1. The Parks Dept. says it has forestry crews “working to ensure that NYC’s streets and parks are safe and clear.\u00a0“<\/p>\n

Also late Saturday. the New York City Fire Dept. confirmed that four people were hurt after they were hit by a falling tree. That accident happened around 5:30 PM in the area of the Kelly Park Playground at East 14th St. and Ave. S in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn.
