STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Tuesday is Veterans Day. It\u2019s a day the nation pauses to remember all U.S. military veterans.<\/p>\n
Though it was called Armistice Day in 1919 and created to commemorate the end of World War I, it was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor all veterans.<\/p>\n
In New York City, the annual Veterans Day Parade will take place today from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. The parade route will run up Fifth Avenue, from 26th Street to 48th Street in Manhattan.<\/p>\n
To mark the 250th anniversaries of the U.S. Army, Marine Corps and Navy, the parade will feature three Grand Marshals: former staff sergeant and Medal of Honor recipient Clinton Romesha; Marine veteran and homeless veterans\u2019 advocate Stephen Peck; and NASA Astronaut and retired U.S. Navy Captain Sunita \u201cSuni\u201d Williams.<\/p>\n
The following is a list of what is open and closed Tuesday in New York City in observance of Veterans Day.<\/p>\n

Banks and bond markets: Most closed<\/p>\n
U.S. Stock Markets: Open<\/a><\/p>\n U.S. Post Offices: Closed<\/a><\/p>\n Sanitation: There will be no trash, curbside composting, or recycling collection on Veterans Day.<\/a> Residents who normally receive Tuesday trash, curbside composting, or recycling collection should place their material at the curb Tuesday evening for collection starting Wednesday, Nov. 12. Residents may experience collection delays as the Sanitation Department works to collect the backlog of material.<\/p>\n City Parking Violations Bureau: Alternate Side Parking (street cleaning) rules are suspended.<\/a> All other parking regulations, including parking meters, remain in effect.<\/p>\n New York Public Library branches: Closed<\/a><\/p>\n Mass transit: The Staten Island Ferry<\/a> will run on a normal weekday schedule. The Staten Island Railway<\/a> will run on a normal weekday schedule.
