Downs for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, there\u2019s horseshoe crabs all the way here up to Broad Channel Drive,\u201d said rubber-boot-wearing off-duty Officer Matt Langdon, 48, standing in the water pooled outside his Beach 84th Street house.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI moved here to Far Rockaway when I was 10, and this is the worst it\u2019s been since Sandy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur crawl space is flooded up to the joists,\u201d the cop told The Post on Sunday. \u201cAt its highest, it was coming up to my thigh, it was 2-and-a-half-feet deep at my house. My kids are stuck in the house.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Millions of New Yorkers hunkered down as the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/26\/us-news\/violent-noreaster-hammers-nyc-region-leaving-one-dead-in-carnage\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">storm unrelentingly continued to pummel the area<\/a> since Saturday with inches of soaking rain, tempestuous winds and rising floodwaters.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 40,000 people across the Empire State on Sunday morning were left without power, including 19,800 alone in Suffolk County on Long Island, <a href=\"https:\/\/poweroutage.us\/area\/state\/new%20york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">according PowerOutage.us.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A whopping 3.16 inches of rain fell in Howard Beach, Queens, with most city neighborhoods seeing at least an inch since Saturday, National Weather Service data show.<\/p>\n<p>Up to 56 mph winds were recorded in JFK Airport in Queens, with Midtown seeing gusts as high as 47 mph over the storm\u2019s two days, according to the weather service.<\/p>\n<p>The punishing winds felled scores of trees citywide, including one that <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/27\/us-news\/nycha-handyman-killed-by-storm-known-as-mr-fix-it-died-working-overtime-how-teary-locals-recognized-body\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">killed beloved NYCHA repairman Leighton Brown<\/a>, 56, on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Four other New Yorkers \u2014 including the little boy and girl \u2014 were also nearly flattened by another falling tree Saturday in Kelly Park Playground in Homecrest, Brooklyn, police said.<\/p>\n<p>The tree struck a 40-year-old woman and 41-year-old woman in addition to the kiddies when it crashed down around 5:30 p.m., cops said.<\/p>\n<p>Miraculously, all four were left with minor injuries.<\/p>\n<p>The baby suffered a cut to his cheek, the little girl was left with a broken arm, the 40-year-old woman had a head and wrist injury and and the 41-year-old hurt her head, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>The near-miss coincided with a \u201cmissing\u201d Long Island swimmer who turned out to be alive and well.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/27\/us-news\/long-island-swimmer-vanishes-in-ocean-off-fire-island-during-deadly-noreaster-as-officials-launch-search\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">still-unidentified swimmer<\/a> sparked fears Saturday when he was spotted jumping \u2014 and apparently vanishing \u2014 into <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/26\/us-news\/surfers-ignore-noreaster-warnings-and-dangers-catch-high-waves-off-rockaway-beach-during-noreaster\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">18-foot waves <\/a>near Field 3 on Fire Island\u2019s western tip.<\/p>\n<p>But after learning he was the subject of a search off Robert Moses State Park, the man contacted authorities to inform them he was fine, according to a joint statement from New York State Police and New York State Park Police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe individual was located alive and well, and no further assistance from the public is needed at this time,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond dangers of life-and-limb, the storm also yielded downright surreal scenes across the city.<\/p>\n<p>Bewildered Queens mom Fadela, 40, said she woke up Sunday morning to find fish swimming in her driveway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook at the little fish!\u201d said Fadela, 40. \u201cThe fish swimming in the driveway, a whole crew of the little ones! Look! Lone Pine Press for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>The fishing expedition unfolded Sunday as water inundated Beach 84th Street and Beach Channel Drive.<\/p>\n<p>The flood not only brought schools of bait fish onto what\u2019s normally dry land but also prehistoric-looking horseshoe crabs.<\/p>\n<p>Garbage cans, space heaters and other human-made debris were swept up by the deluge, too.<\/p>\n<p>Wicked wind in New Jersey meanwhile sent some smelly objects on the go.<\/p>\n<p>Flooding at Beach 84th Street and Beach Channel Drive in Far Rockaway in Queens. Lone Pine Press<\/p>\n<p>Four runaway portable toilets were spotted rolling across a parking lot in Metlife Stadium, viral video showed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHeads up!\u201d a man is heard yelling in the footage as the johns barreled into another man\u2019s path outside the stadium.<\/p>\n<p>The to-go bathrooms eventually came to a stop, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/VintageNJ1\/status\/2104218907431104916?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">as video posted by Vintage.NewJersey on X shows<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Flooding from the nor\u2019easter hit coastal neighborhoods across the city starting Saturday, with Broad Channel \u2013 a sleepy waterfront neighborhood across the bridge from Far Rockaway \u2013 among the most inundated.<\/p>\n<p>Locals such as Bob, 77, grew worried Sunday that the high tide would bring another round of flooding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWatch out for the sharks!\u201d he joked, before turning serious. \u201cIf it\u2019s like yesterday, it\u2019s going to get higher.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Surfers Garret and Brian brave the storm at Beach 90th Street in Far Rockaway, Queens on Sept. 27, 2026.
