Dozens of protesters were arrested across Manhattan for blocking streets as part of demonstrations against Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the United Nations General Assembly.

There were multiple protests throughout Manhattan, most of which were peaceful with plenty of impassioned words as both sides exchanged their views emphatically.

There were some high-profile demonstrators among a crowd that blocked traffic on East 39th Street and First Avenue. Actors Elliot Page, Susan Sarandon, “Hacks” star Hannah Einbinder and Wikileaks whistleblower Chelsea Manning were among the better-known names spotted as the group chanted against what they termed genocide in Gaza.

Around 100 people were arrested near the UN during the large protest to Netanyahu’s appearance, according to the advocacy group Jewish Voice for Peace. Among those seen taken in custody were Sarandon, Einbinder, New York City congressional candidate Darializa Chevalier, along with multiple City Councilmembers.

All of those who were taken into custody at that protest were later released.

There was at least one violent clash, as two men on opposite sides of Netanyahu’s visit scuffled near East 47th Street. Both were arrested.

The events unfolded amid tight security throughout the area. Heavily armed officers were visible near the UN for a fourth straight day of gridlock alerts in Manhattan.
