Her flight was among the more than 600 flights delayed and nearly 200 canceled at LaGuardia Airport. Frequent fliers say their travel plans have been uprooted.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s the scary part for us because we do need to get home, and it\u2019s a very long flight. It\u2019s a lot of arrangements to be made, a lot of hotels, a lot of costs,\u201d said Adison, who is originally from Belgium and plans to return home next week.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything is up in the air. This was unforseen, this shutdown. And now everybody is trying to scramble, get things together, the economy is bad. What are we supposed to do now?\u201d Samira Falu, a Bronx native who goes to college in Florida, said.<\/p>\n
Her initial flight was canceled, and then her rebooked flight was delayed several hours.<\/p>\n
Air traffic controllers have not been paid in more than a month, leaving many to call out sick and find another source of income in the meantime.<\/p>\n
Writing on the social media platform Truth Social, President Donald Trump urged controllers to get back to work, threatening to dock pay for those who continue to call out.<\/p>\n
Trump also said he would recommend a bonus of $10,000 for those who stayed on the job.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll take anything that recognizes these hardworking men and women, but we\u2019ll work with the administration on any issues that are out there. Air traffic controllers have continued to show up during this shutdown. They\u2019ve endured the longest shutdown in American history, and every single day. They absolutely not only deserve their pay, they deserve to be recognized for what\u2019s going on,\u201d President of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association Nick Daniels said.<\/p>\n
Many are now looking ahead to the busy travel season. Last year, more than 3 million passengers were screened by TSA the Sunday after Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n
Fliers say they\u2019re trying to stay positive.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t stress things that are out of my control. So, I just hope for the best, and if it\u2019s not good, then it\u2019s not good,\u201d Falu said.<\/p>\n
Tuesday will be the second missed payday for controllers and other FAA employees.
