houses were <a href=\"https:\/\/ephemeralnewyork.wordpress.com\/2016\/08\/01\/the-sad-fate-of-these-lafayette-street-columns\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in vogue in Manhattan<\/a> and Brooklyn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Easily accessible to the ferries that plowed the East River to Manhattan, the single-family dwellings at 42-48 Willow Place in Brooklyn Heights were probably occupied by middle-class residents who worked in New York but sought the slower pace in the enclave <a href=\"https:\/\/www.willowtown.org\/a-history-of-willowtown-and-the-willowtown-association\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">known as Willowtown<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ephemeralnewyork.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/46willowplacecloseup.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"56180\" Heights\u2019 reputation as a fine bedroom community of lovely brownstone row houses rose, 42-48 Willow Place seemed to fall into disrepair. <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">An 1853 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newspapers.com\/image\/117460087\/?match=2&amp;terms=%2246%20willow%20place%22%20&amp;search-id=ad8d8ef7-e3f3-4fae-bcc5-ae6c98dcfbec&amp;search-rank=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brooklyn Evening Star<\/a> article described the houses as \u201cin the most filthy condition imaginable and requiring immediate attention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ephemeralnewyork.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/screenshot-2026-09-28-at-2.40.04-am.png\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"56187\" wp-block-paragraph\">Despite that alarming report, the late 19th and early 20th centuries seemed to pass uneventfully for the four houses. The missing houses in the former colonnade row were replaced by three modernist dwellings that still surround the antebellum survivor\u2014which was home to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/10\/31\/realestate\/greek-revival-townhouse-brooklyn-heights.html?eafs_enabled=false\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">one family for more than 50 years<\/a> before it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compass.com\/homedetails\/46-Willow-Place-Brooklyn-NY-11201\/1ZZDS5_pid\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sold in early 2026 for $4.1 million<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">What\u2019s next for 46 Willow Place?
