{"id":358967,"date":"2026-09-28T17:14:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-28T17:14:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/358967\/"},"modified":"2026-09-28T17:14:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-28T17:14:10","slug":"nyc-soy-milk-pilot-cuts-emissions-boosts-consumption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/358967\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC soy milk pilot cuts emissions, boosts consumption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\">A soy milk pilot at NYC Public Schools is lowering the district\u2019s greenhouse gas emissions and increasing milk consumption amongst students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\"><a class=\"ContentText-BodyTextChunk ContentText-BodyTextChunk_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foodservicedirector.com\/k-12-schools\/whole-milk-returns-to-school-lunch-programs-nationwide\" target=\"_self\" data-discover=\"true\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">After the passage of the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act of 2025<\/a>, which requires schools to provide non-dairy milk alternatives to students with dietary restrictions if they have a written note from their doctor, parent, or guardian, the New York City Office of Food &amp; Nutrition Services (OFNS) and the Mayor\u2019s Office of Food Policy (MOFP) launched a soy milk pilot at five schools in May in partnership with the Plant Powered School Meals Coalition, including Chilis on Wheels, Coalition for Healthy School Food, Friends of the Earth, and Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\">Participating schools offered organic soy milk directly on the lunch line alongside existing dairy milk options. Data from the pilot revealed that among the three schools with baseline data, average daily milk selection increased by 18.6%, or about 126 additional servings per day.
