{"id":359073,"date":"2026-09-28T19:06:59","date_gmt":"2026-09-28T19:06:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/359073\/"},"modified":"2026-09-28T19:06:59","modified_gmt":"2026-09-28T19:06:59","slug":"new-nyc-jobs-center-offers-applications-interviews-and-hiring-help","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/359073\/","title":{"rendered":"New NYC Jobs Center Offers Applications, Interviews And Hiring Help"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    Job seekers can get application help, learn about civil service exams and meet agencies hiring workers.<\/p>\n<p>Sep 28, 2026 12:02 PM EDT<\/p>\n<p>NEW YORK CITY\u2014 A center for finding City jobs will open next Monday in Lower Manhattan, giving New Yorkers a walk-in location to get help applying for public-service positions and navigating the civil service process.<\/p>\n<p>The Jobs NYC Center, located at 2 Lafayette St., will begin regular walk-in hours Oct. 5. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article-subscribe\">\n  <a class=\"article-subscribe-link\" href=\"https:\/\/patch.com\/new-york\/new-york-city\/subscribe?utm_source=amp&amp;utm_campaign=subscribe&amp;utm_medium=mobile&amp;utm_term=subscribe_in_article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Subscribe<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>New Yorkers can visit from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday without an appointment.<\/p>\n<p>The center will also host hiring halls, job fairs, interviews, workshops and training sessions with City agencies and other employers.<\/p>\n<p> The center&#8217;s launch also expands a Jobs NYC program created under former Mayor Eric Adams in 2024 to bring City hiring services into neighborhoods.<\/p>\n<p>As of Aug. 31, the City had 292,808 employees out of 307,199 authorized positions, leaving 14,391 vacancies, according to City Comptroller Mark Levine&#8217;s agency staffing dashboard. <\/p>\n<p>The vacancies represented 4.68 percent of authorized positions.<\/p>\n<p>The Administration for Children&#8217;s Services had 676 vacancies, or 9.62 percent of its authorized positions. <\/p>\n<p>The agency is scheduled to hold hiring information sessions at the new Jobs NYC Center on Oct. 5, 12 and 19.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Small Business Services and the Department of Citywide Administrative Services will jointly operate the center.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is the place where any New Yorker can walk into and get real help finding, applying for, and landing a job within their own city,&#8221; Kenny Minaya, Small Business Services commissioner, said.<\/p>\n<p>Minaya said he grew up in New York City and attended the City&#8217;s public schools before graduating from City University of New York schools. <\/p>\n<p>He recalled receiving advice from City employees in his family and support network to take civil service exams because future opportunities were uncertain.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I didn&#8217;t know it at the time, but I was lucky enough to have people in my life that worked in city government and could help me navigate what seemed like an opaque system,&#8221; Minaya said.<\/p>\n<p>The new center will offer that assistance directly to job seekers.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Citywide Administrative Services, which administers the City&#8217;s civil service system, connects New Yorkers to about 80 percent of City jobs, according to Commissioner Yu Mei Kitase.<\/p>\n<p>The Lafayette Street location also sits near a City testing site, allowing applicants for jobs requiring exams to take the test nearby.<\/p>\n<p>The opening also marked the swearing-in of 17 new employees for NYC BEST, the City&#8217;s Business Express Service Team.<\/p>\n<p>The team helps small-business owners navigate permits, regulations, inspections and other City requirements.<\/p>\n<p>The new hires will join the existing NYC BEST team as the administration expands its services for small businesses.<\/p>\n<p>The City&#8217;s Jobs NYC program has worked with 47 City agencies and public institutions, according to the administration.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on the Jobs NYC program and center, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/site\/sbs\/careers\/jobsnyc-events.page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Job seekers can get application help, learn about civil service exams and meet agencies hiring workers.
