She\u2019s expected to be replaced by Michelle Paladino in an acting capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Samuels\u2019 top deputy for early childhood education, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2026\/09\/08\/erica-phillips-named-lead-nyc-schools-early-childhood-office\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Simone Hawkins, departed before the start of this school year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the last nearly five years, Kenita Lloyd has been a critical member of the New York City Public Schools leadership team and we thank her for her tireless work on behalf of our students, families, and staff,\u201d said Nicole Brownstein, press secretary for the public schools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition to launching the rebrand from the \u2018DOE\u2019 to New York City Public Schools, Ms. Lloyd was the instrumental force behind the agency\u2019s first interfaith advisory council and expanded engagement with the Panel for Educational Policy. We wish her all of the best in all future endeavors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lloyd started at the public schools in January 2022 under former Chancellor David Banks, first as his top deputy for family engagement and external affairs, before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2024\/07\/03\/schools-chancellor-banks-taps-nyc-schools-point-person-on-parent-tensions-as-chief-of-staff\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">shifting ahead of the 2024-25 school year to his chief of staff<\/a>. Previously, Lloyd and Banks worked together at Eagle Academy, the network of all-boys public schools that Banks founded.<\/p>\n<p>The current chancellor was the third that Lloyd served as chief of staff: Banks, Melissa Aviles-Ramos and Samuels. Through each transition, she served as a source of institutional knowledge and stability.<\/p>\n<p>The memo described Lloyd as the \u201cdriving force\u201d behind the <a href=\"https:\/\/hellgatenyc.com\/doe-nyc-public-schools-brand-refresh\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Department of Education\u2019s systemwide rebrand as the New York City Public Schools<\/a>.
