A delivery woman was killed when a dump truck plowed into her e-bike and then drove off in Herald Square on Monday, according to cops and an advocacy group.<\/p>\n
The truck driver collided with the 50-year-old cyclist around 10:50 a.m., as both headed west on West 34th Street, approaching Seventh Avenue \u2013 in front of the Primark store and just down the block from the iconic Macy\u2019s flagship location, police said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The woman \u2014 who was riding a JOCO rental e-bike and making a delivery \u2014 was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Transportation Alternatives advocacy organization<\/a>.<\/p>\n A witness who asked not to be identified told AM NY<\/a> the bloody scene drew a crowd of onlookers on the busy street.<\/p>\n \u201cThe truck came, and the bike was here, and the truck served and hit them,\u201d the witness said. \u201cI was across the street. I was down. I was walking, and I saw it, and that\u2019s when everybody started running out, crowding and stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n The woman, who rode a JOCO rental e-bike, was pronounced dead at the scene. Getty Images<\/p>\n The NYPD confirmed hours later that the driver was subsequently found and questioned, but did not face any charges by the late afternoon.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re horrified and heartbroken that another bike rider is dead,\u201d Transportation Alternatives said in a statement. \u201cThis is the 20th bike rider killed on our streets this year \u2014 the 20th New Yorker whose community is now grieving a sudden and preventable loss.<\/p>\n \u201cIn just two days, the City Council will hold a hearing on e-bikes,\u201d the advocates added. \u201cDuring such a deadly year, it would make sense to hold a hearing on bikes and bike safety \u2014 but we must be clear about the risks and the dangers. Seventeen New Yorkers on e-bikes have been killed on our streets so far this year, and our city\u2019s leaders should be doing everything in their power to ensure safety on our streets.\u201d<\/p>\n The driver was later found and questioned, but not immediately charged, cops said. Getty Images<\/p>\n The deadly hit-and-run came a week after 68-year-old pedestrian Ismael Rodriguez, of the Bronx, was struck and killed by a motorist<\/a> who may have been behind the wheel of a Lamborghini, police said.<\/p>\n That driver had not been caught by Monday.<\/p>\n
