NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) \u2014 The New York City Council is calling on some of the biggest names in artificial intelligence, and this time, they will have to answer questions under oath.<\/p>\n
This will be the first time the major AI companies will appear before the City Council for public questioning since recent reports and warnings about the tech.<\/p>\n
City Council Speaker Julie Menin says four major names are set to testify, under oath, next Monday.<\/p>\n
Menin says aside from Meta, the companies only confirmed their attendance after the threat of a subpoena.<\/p>\n
The hearing comes amid warnings from whistleblowers and AI executives about the tech and reports that rogue AI agents have already caused trouble for government databases.<\/p>\n
Those concerns were echoed at the United Nations Security Council.<\/p>\n
The New York City Council hearing will also include testimony from national experts in AI and consumer protection.<\/p>\n
A major focus will be the risks facing New York and legislative proposals the city can enact to establish stronger safeguards.<\/p>\n
Menin says the council may seek judicial enforcement in court if SpaceX AI does not comply with the subpoena.<\/p>\n
