On Friday, Oct. 2, The Strokes <\/a>will rock Queens\u2019 Flushing Meadows Corona Park as part of their ongoing Reality Awaits Tour with indie royalty special guests TV on the Radio, Beach House<\/a> and Fcukers<\/a>.<\/p>\n According to Screamer Magazine<\/a> \u201cthe\u2026event will transform one of New York City\u2019s most iconic public spaces into a massive open-air show, bringing together thousands of fans for a celebration of music in one of the most culturally diverse neighborhoods in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n If you\u2019d like to be there \u2014\u00a0for what will surely be the indie Gen X\/Millennial event of the fall \u2014\u00a0last-minute tickets are still available.<\/p>\n At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find on General Admission passes was $270 including fees<\/a> on Vivid Seats.<\/p>\n VIP passes start at $476 including fees<\/a>. They come with \u201caccess to a dedicated grassy village area with shade, seating, upgraded drink options, air-conditioned restrooms, and an expedited entry lane near the Unisphere.\u201d<\/p>\n This concert, which comes in support of The Strokes\u2019 recently-released seventh studio album \u201cReality Awaits,\u201d is the last of the band\u2019s North American run before they head to Europe and Australia.<\/p>\n Based on our findings at Set List FM<\/a>, Julian Casablancas and co. have been playing 21 songs per gig. Notable tracks to often make the cut include unimpeachable fan favorites \u201cReptilia,\u201d \u201cWhat Ever Happened?,\u201d \u201cHard to Explain,\u201d \u201cSomeday\u201d and \u201cLast Nite\u201d as well as tracks from \u201cReality Awaits\u201d and their Grammy-winning \u201cThe New Abnormal.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cMusically, the band showed a tightness and sharpness that easily overcame the dullness of the arena sound,\u201d Under The Radar Mag<\/a> wrote about a June Strokes show in Chicago. <\/p>\n \u201c\u2018Take It or Leave It\u2019 hit incredibly hard, demonstrating the benefit of seeing The Strokes on a dedicated, work-a-day tour rather than a one-off festival or fundraiser. After a handful of spins, we keep revisiting the record to rediscover its charming peculiarities and miniscule nuances.<\/p>\n \u201cReality Awaits\u201d gets underway with \u201cPsycho S\u2014\u201c that has far less bark than one might expect from that menacing title. Pensive, melancholy guitar and whispering vocals slowly build until auto-tune Casablancas goes all out and hits oddly endearing high notes over crashing cymbals and soaring Strokes-y solos. Sure, the nightmarish Voidz influence is felt here but Strokes DNA is certainly present. <\/p>\n Things get a bit more conventional with the catchy \u201cDine N\u2019Dash.\u201d Neat percussion, tightly-controlled guitar and a restrained, lullaby-like Julian harken back to \u201cThe New Abnormal.\u201d There are still yelp-y, grunt-y shouts but if you prefer the group\u2019s earlier output, this might be a good place to start.<\/p>\n \u201cLonely in the Future\u201d is a sonic blast right out the gate. The first ten seconds sound more in line with Rage Against The Machines than The Strokes\u2019 typical fare. Things follow a more straightforward path from there as Casablancas sings a beautiful chorus where he repeats \u201cI did that yesterday\/I did that years ago when I was a kid.\u201d A sly reference to the group\u2019s new direction and their unwillingness to stick to the script? Perhaps. Bonus points for the bleating sound toward the end. It\u2019s impossible not to jam out to.<\/p>\n Ahead of the album\u2019s release, they dropped the downbeat yet dreamy single \u201cFalling Out Love.\u201d After it was dropped, we wrote that the song \u201cfinds chameleonic lead singer Julian Casablancas channeling\u00a0both\u00a0Lou Reed\u2019s detached style and Neil Young\u2019s high-pitched warble to create a Voidz-ian swirling anthem punctuated by the numbing refrain\u00a0\u2018Fallin\u2019 out of love for the first time\/Some things are flawed by design\/But I\u2019m fine for the first time.\u2019\u201d We stand by that.<\/p>\n We\u2019re absolutely smitten with the playful \u201cGoing to Babble On.\u201d The track isn\u2019t particularly memorable but fits beautifully within the fivesome\u2019s canon. Somewhat upbeat with a slightly sinister streak and a mesmerizing hook. No complaints here.<\/p>\n At this point, we\u2019ve been listening to the lead single \u201cGoing Shopping\u201d for months since its April release. The tropicalia-tinged tune feels like The Strokes in a minor key. A chilled-out but unmistakably Strokes-ian groove, Julian doing his auto-tuned Voidz thing\u2026until the minute mark. Then, BAM! Tthe BPMs kick up a notch and a Dire Straits-esque sound pop and takes the single to the next level. This is offbeat summer music at its absolute best. Blast this one by the pool.<\/p>\n No lie, the dingy \u201cLiar\u2019s Remorse\u201d is our favorite track on all of \u201cReality Awaits.\u201d It\u2019s a bit dour, whiny but also irresistible. Ambitous, strange and occasionally magical, the song heads into raw Beatles territory toward the end with a strange \u201charmonic minor\u201d moment. There\u2019s no doubt this song will be divisive but its fans will likely defend this one to the end.<\/p>\n Well, we didn\u2019t expect \u201cThe Fruits of Conquest.\u201d Easily, the funkiest, freshest track here, this seductive anthem is as sexy as the group has ever done. Casablancas channels Jagger over the grooviest beat the outfit has ever produced. What a treat. Put this one on while you\u2019re closing up shop at a restaurant and your shift will be over in no time (if you don\u2019t work at a restaurant, throw this on five minutes before logging off).<\/p>\n Closing the album out is the humble \u201cTyrants of the Mellow Moon,\u201d that has a bit in common with \u201cHappiness is a Warm Gun\u201d (perhaps I\u2019m making Beatles connections that aren\u2019t there) for a short bit before the band settles back into their trademark exquisite garage rock and Julian\u2019s snaky vocals. Fuzzed-out guitars midway through this song is a high point for the record that\u2019s already full of them.<\/p>\n OK, that\u2019s all we have to say! Now, you go out and form your own opinion.
