News 12 was told the school safety agent searched the student and found a .380-caliber handgun.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Police say the 17-year-old boy is facing charges like criminal possession of a weapon.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">It comes hours after a separate incident in the Bronx on Tuesday, when police say officers responded to Eximius College Prep School on Fulton Avenue in the Bronx around 11:15 a.m. for a 911 call about a student with a firearm.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Officers found a 15-year-old student with the gun. He was <a data-rich-text-hyperlink=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/brooklyn.news12.com\/students-taken-into-custody-after-gun-incidents-at-bronx-brooklyn-schools\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">taken into custody,<\/a> and the firearm was recovered.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">The school safety officers&#8217; union tells News 12 a total of <a data-rich-text-hyperlink=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/brooklyn.news12.com\/6-guns-recovered-inside-nyc-public-schools-since-the-start-of-the-school-year\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">six guns have been recovered<\/a> inside New York City Public Schools since the start of the school year in September.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">News 12 was told neither public school has metal detectors.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Derek Jackson, director of the Law Enforcement Division at Teamsters Local 237, a union representing school safety agents, says more staffing and metal detectors are needed.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">\u201cIt\u2019s frightening. It\u2019s very disturbing. This is a country where you have a lot of school shootings and massacres.
