{"id":361468,"date":"2026-10-01T03:16:07","date_gmt":"2026-10-01T03:16:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/361468\/"},"modified":"2026-10-01T03:16:07","modified_gmt":"2026-10-01T03:16:07","slug":"news-12-brooklyn-nyc-takes-next-step-in-1b-reconstruction-project-for-coney-islands-famous-boardwalk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/361468\/","title":{"rendered":"News 12 | Brooklyn | Nyc Takes Next Step In 1b Reconstruction Project For Coney Islands Famous Boardwalk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">The city took the next step in reconstructing Coney Island&#8217;s famous boardwalk. <\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Officials announced on Wednesday that they&#8217;re looking for the design team to lead the $1 billion project, which includes a 2.4-mile stretch of the boardwalk.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">The city called the announcement the &#8220;first formal step&#8221; in delivering the billion dollars, with the hope of selecting a design team in Spring 2027. <\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Last December, the city made a $1 billion commitment to reconstruct the nearly century-old boardwalk. <\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Some residents say the planks along the boardwalk are a problem. <\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">&#8220;It&#8217;s basically like a minefield at this point,&#8221; said Tatyana Segal, who lives nearby. &#8220;We have protruding nails, sticking boards, a lot of trip-and-fall accidents.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">&#8220;The planks of the boardwalk have destroyed two of [my brother&#8217;s] wheelchairs,&#8221; said Jose Santiago, who also lives nearby. <\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">While there is no exact timeline, the completion is still expected to be years away.
