{"id":361536,"date":"2026-10-01T04:46:29","date_gmt":"2026-10-01T04:46:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/361536\/"},"modified":"2026-10-01T04:46:29","modified_gmt":"2026-10-01T04:46:29","slug":"e-bike-regulation-proposals-pack-nyc-council-hearing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/361536\/","title":{"rendered":"E-bike regulation proposals pack NYC Council hearing\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW YORK (PIX11) \u2014 It\u2019s a topic with so much interest and controversy that on Wednesday, there was a long line of people waiting for a seat to attend a hearing about it. <\/p>\n<p>E-bikes and further regulating them were the issue that was the focus of a City Council hearing that lasted most of the day and kept the City Council chamber at City Hall filled to capacity.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/\" class=\"promo-link__link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\tStay connected with community stories that matter: Visit our homepage\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In front of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee were no fewer than 23 proposed pieces of legislation to regulate e-bikes and other powered mobility devices.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation sought to:<\/p>\n<p>Ban e-bikes that can move faster than15 m.p.h.<\/p>\n<p>Require delivery companies to have licenses and insurance for delivery workers<\/p>\n<p>Require rideshare cyclists, such as Citibike riders, to review rules of the road before renting<\/p>\n<p>Require speed-reducing devices on delivery e-bikes<\/p>\n<p>The Wednesday session was only a hearing.
