If he had it his way, the US would join the International Criminal Court (ICC) and enforce an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani<\/a> said in a podcast interview aired Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The anti-Israel mayor, who acknowledged this summer that he has no power to enforce a 2024 ICC arrest warrant against Netanyahu<\/a> for alleged war crimes in Gaza, took his latest swipe at the leader of the Jewish State during an interview<\/a> with popular podcaster Theo Von<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe that the US government should join the ICC. It should enforce its warrants for everyone,\u201d Mamdani told the stand-up comedian on \u201cThis Past Weekend.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

Netanyahu slammed Mamdani at the UN General Assembly last month, claiming \u201cJews no longer feel safe\u201d in NYC under the mayor. REUTERS<\/p>\n

He later added, \u201cWhen you ask about the prime minister, we\u2019re talking about the architect of a horrific genocide.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The ICC has 124 member states and can prosecute crimes committed by nationals of member states or on the territory of member states by others.<\/p>\n

Israel and the US are not members and do not recognize the international court\u2019s jurisdiction.<\/p>\n

US officials, including members of the Biden administration and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), slammed the ICC warrant<\/a> against Netanyahu at the time as \u201cshameful,\u201d \u201cunserious,\u201d and \u201ctroubling.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, during his mayoral campaign, Mamdani vowed that he\u2019d have Netanyahu arrested if he ever stepped foot in the Big Apple.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The socialist mayor backed down in July after reviewing potential legal avenues to arrest the Israeli leader and finding there are none.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I had my say, the US government would have joined the ICC and honored every single warrant that they\u2019ve issued,\u201d Mamdani declared in his interview with Von.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

To which Von responded, \u201cF\u2013k yeah.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mamdani had vowed to arrest Netanyahu if he came to New York, but has no power to enforce the 2024 ICC warrant. This Past Weekend w\/ Theo Von<\/p>\n

Netanyahu was in New York City last month for the United Nations General Assembly<\/a>, where he tore into Mamdani during his speech, claiming \u201cJews no longer feel safe\u201d in the city under Hizzoner.<\/p>\n

The Israeli prime minister also ripped the mayor for accusing the Jewish State of genocide in Gaza, and slammed his wife, Rama Duwaji, for liking anti-Israel social media posts<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was strange,\u201d Mamdani said of Netanyahu\u2019s attacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was having a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands at the LGBTQ center in downtown Manhattan \u2026 and then I get back from that meeting, and it\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, by the way,\u00a0here\u2019s what he was saying at the UN.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of this is an attempt to distract from responsibility,\u201d Mamdani argued.\u00a0<\/p>\n
