{"id":36294,"date":"2025-11-11T18:55:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T18:55:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/36294\/"},"modified":"2025-11-11T18:55:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T18:55:10","slug":"junior-honor-society-celebrates-mural-completion-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/36294\/","title":{"rendered":"Junior Honor Society celebrates mural completion | News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WATERLOO \u2014 The Waterloo Middle School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society unveiled a vibrant new mural in the school\u2019s courtyard.<\/p>\n<p>The celebration was attended by several district leaders including Middle School Principal Christal Kent, Assistant Middle School Principal Vincent Vitale, Superintendent of Schools Sarah Cupelli, Secondary Executive Principal Katie Tucker, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Christine Taylor, and other invited guests.<\/p>\n<p>The mural was the vision of Anna Gray, who was a NJHS member during her 8th grade year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wanted to make something that people could look at and appreciate,\u201d said Gray.<\/p>\n<p>She and her NJHS peers decided to base the mural on heroes that students could look up to. The final design incorporates the likenesses of Abraham Lincoln, Michael Jordan, Amelia Earhart, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Work on the mural began in March 2025 under the guidance of the club\u2019s advisors, Hope Brown and Joe Demetro. Twenty-three NJHS members met after school throughout the year to sketch and paint on the brick facade of the courtyard\u2019s western wall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was great for them to celebrate the completion of such a big project,\u201d said Brown. \u201cI can\u2019t wait to see what our current members come up with next.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Waterloo chapter of the NJHS was formed during the 2022-23 school year.
