Tonight, fans can settle in at Central Library for a free screening of two episodes of HBO’s “JAŸ-Z In 8,” celebrating three decades of the Brooklyn-born rapper’s music and legacy.

Earlier this month, HBO premiered “JAŸ-Z In 8,” a docuseries that champions Brooklyn’s own Jay-Z and celebrates his 30 years in music. 2026 marks 30 years since he released his debut album, “Reasonable Doubt.” He performed an iconic three-night run at Yankee Stadium in June to mark the occasion, with the docuseries as the follow-up.

The series follows Jay-Z as he shares an intimate moment with producer and Def Jam co-founder Rick Rubin and explores his extensive catalog. Fans get to hear stories and behind-the-scenes moments from some of their favorite hits and deep cuts.

Jay-Z pulls back the curtain on his youth, writing process, past trauma and connections to legends like Tupac, Ye and his wife, Beyoncé. He even says he would listen to “4:44” the least: “I didn’t hear that song since I made it,” he told Rubin. He fears his kids will have to listen to the track one day because he candidly talks about his past infidelities. For “Forever Young,” he feels he should have gone harder and that his verse didn’t measure up to the Alphaville sample and Ye’s production.

At the docuseries premiere at Lincoln Center, the Shawn Carter Foundation hosted 450 New York City-area students, collaborating with Men’s Wearhouse, Operation Prom and Hauteline to let students participate in the iconic night with tuxedos and gowns. Students sat with some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Kaluuya, DJ Khaled, Fat Joe, Gunna, Lindsey Vonn, Michael Rubin and many more.

Now, Roc Nation and the Brooklyn Public Library invite the public to join the experience. This Friday, Oct. 2, the Central Library’s main lobby will screen episodes 5 and 6 of the docuseries. Admission is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the screening begins at 7 p.m. Attendees can collect the JAŸ-Z 30 limited-edition library card celebrating “The Blueprint” while supplies last.

Don’t miss the chance to witness music history in real time.
