The price of this sandwich is total baloney!<\/p>\n

A New York City deli unveiled a new sandwich named after Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman <\/a>Friday \u2014 as the pol vowed to bring down the hard-to-stomach cost of lunch.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Blakeman\u201d at Mario\u2019s Meats & Gourmet Deli in Queens is stacked with\u00a0fresh roasted turkey, shredded lettuce, an oil and vinegar vinaigrette and spicy deli mustard on a hero.<\/p>\n

The sandwich costs $15 but Blakeman promised he\u2019ll make it several dollars cheaper, if he\u2019s elected on November 3.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I become governor it\u2019ll be $12,\u201d he said at the deli. \u201cGotta make it affordable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Blakeman<\/a> hammed it up at the media event to \u201chighlight how much more expensive it has become to operate a neighborhood deli and put a sandwich on the counter compared with five years ago when [Gov.] Kathy Hochul took office,\u201d his team said in a\u00a0press release.<\/p>\n

The owner of the Flushing deli, Joe Digangi, said Blakeman\u2019s cost saving emphasis sounds good after a expensive summer of fuel bills.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy whole thing is with the prices of electric and gas. The summer was ridiculous for us. We were making money, yes, but it was going in one hand and out the other,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, he\u2019s big on energy costs, big on trying to help us out with knocking out those energy costs\u2026 And I have a lot of refrigerators, a lot of air conditioners in here, so it\u2019s just a constant, you know, $4,000, $5,000 bill every month,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Small businesses like delis are hit with hard-to-stomach costs from everything from taxes to electricity, labor, insurance, and rent \u2014 all of which \u201cultimately affect the prices customers see at the register,\u201d Blakeman\u2019s press release said.<\/p>\n

New York State Democratic Party Spokesperson Addison Dick, however, contended that Blakeman needs to put his lunch money where his mouth is.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew Yorkers know baloney when they see it \u2013 Blakeman still has no beef with Trump\u2019s tariffs that are sending grocery prices skyrocketing and forcing New Yorkers to spend all their bread on basic necessities,\u201d Dick said.<\/p>\n

Asked why his signature sandwich is turkey, Blakeman credited his wife.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy wife wants me to eat healthy,\u201d he said. \u201cWhat can I tell ya? You gotta follow orders.\u201d<\/p>\n
