He said the bridge could be a mirror image of the Goethals Bridge and said the Staten Island Expressway needs more capacity. Blakeman was joined by Vito Fossella, Andrew J. Lanza, and Sam Pirozzolo, who backed the proposal. Fossella said the bridge is 100 years old, and Lanza said 14 million cars cross it every year.
