New York\u2019s recreational marijuana dispensaries have now sold more than $4 billion worth of legal cannabis products, state officials have announced.<\/p>\n

The Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) revealed the sales totals at a Cannabis Control Board (CCB) meeting on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The $4.1 billion worth of adult-use marijuana products since sales began in late 2022 includes almost $1.5 billion so far in 2026 alone.<\/p>\n

Third quarter sales reached $512.6 million, bringing the total for this year to date to $1.41 billion.<\/p>\n

The OCM update also noted that a significant share of the state\u2019s legal cannabis market is comprised of social and economic equity businesses, and that almost two-thirds (64 percent) of new licenses issued at Thursday\u2019s meeting meet that designation.<\/p>\n

CCB this week also approved a new cannabis nursery license application window and extended the provisional license period for equity and provisional marijuana business licenses.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday\u2019s actions are about opening doors, helping businesses move forward, and protecting the integrity of New York\u2019s cannabis market,\u201d Jessica Garc\u00eda, chair of the CCB, said in a press release.<\/p>\n

According to OCM, the state currently has 1,981 licensed adult-use marijuana businesses, including:<\/p>\n

280 cultivators
\n241 distributors
\n329 microbusinesses
\n582 processors
\n548 retail dispensaries
\n370 Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensaries<\/p>\n

Fifty-six percent of all recreational cannabis business licenses have been awarded to social and economic equity applicants.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat representation across the supply chain is meaningful progress, and our work is to make sure these businesses have the support to grow and thrive,\u201d L. Simone Washington, OCM\u2019s chief equity officer, said.<\/p>\n

Separately, Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) recently signed legislation clarifying that marijuana microbusinesses can fully participate in cannabis farmers\u2019 markets<\/a> and pop-up events.<\/p>\n

In May, OCM began accepting applications from licensed dispensaries that want to host temporary cannabis farmers\u2019 markets<\/a> and pop-up events.<\/p>\n

The launch of applications this year followed the enactment of earlier legislation signed by Hochul last year that built on an existing showcase program<\/a> that was first created in 2023. The state Cannabis Control Board (CCB) adopted regulations for the events program<\/a> that is now rolling out last May.<\/p>\n

In March, the governor marked the five-year anniversary of adult-use marijuana legalization in New York<\/a>, highlighting $3.3 billion in retail sales at that point, the opening of more than 600 licensed cannabis shops and achievements in promoting social equity in the industry while taking steps to mitigate the illicit market.<\/p>\n

In January, New York officials released a set of reports providing a 2025 end-of-year status update on the evolution of the state\u2019s medical and adult-use marijuana markets<\/a>\u2014touting record sales, revenue hauls for state coffers, licensing approvals, equity initiatives and more.<\/p>\n

The OCM annual report also notes that Hochul\u00a0signed legislation into law that expands the state\u2019s medical cannabis program<\/a>\u00a0by improving patient access and \u201cupdating the program framework to better meet patient needs statewide.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a coalition of New York marijuana businesses are asking the governor to veto legislation that would create a new Cannabis Wage Board charged with recommending minimum hourly wages<\/a> for industry workers.<\/p>\n

The proposal would \u201ccreate significant uncertainty for operators at a time when many are finally beginning to find their footing after years of regulatory delays, capital constraints, and continued competition from the illicit market,\u201d an action alert sent by the Cannabis Association of New York (CANY) said.<\/p>\n

Separately, New York senators recently approved a bill related to reciprocity for out-of-state medical marijuana patients and the availability of pre-rolled joints<\/a>\u00a0in the medical cannabis market\u2014even though the state has already enacted those reforms separately.<\/p>\n

In February, the sponsor of the bill separately introduced legislation that would allow New York liquor and wine stores to obtain a permit to sell low-dose cannabis-infused drinks at their businesses<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Also, the governor recently signed legislation into law that revises zoning requirements for licensed marijuana businesses<\/a>, granting more flexibility to retailers located within certain distances of schools and places of worship.<\/p>\n
