Brian May<\/a> has confirmed that Queen\u2019s touring days are over, after a close family friend\u2019s tragic passing made him realise that his relationship to touring was unsustainable.<\/p>\n Though still a united front, Queen\u2019s surviving members, May and Roger Taylor, have spent the last few years focusing on their own solo projects.<\/p>\n Their last live performance as Queen was in 2022, at the tribute event for the late Taylor Hawkins; after this, May toured with Queen and Adam Lambert on The Rhapsody Tour, which ended in Japan in February 2024.<\/p>\n In a new interview with The Times<\/a>, May revealed that, alongside Taylor, he \u201cmade a decision 18 months ago that I didn\u2019t want to tour again.\u201d<\/p>\n The guitarist continued, \u201cA close family friend died when we were in the States, so I said to my tour manager, \u2018I\u2019ll just nip home for a few days and come back.\u2019 She looked me in the eyes and said, \u2018You know you can\u2019t do that.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n The tragic loss made May realise that he couldn\u2019t continue touring in the same way: \u201cI love to play, I love to travel, but the trade-off is sacrificing your freedom,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n May concluded decisively, \u201cI have a wife [the actor Anita Dobson], grandchildren and a lot of astrophysics I want to do, so I\u2019m thinking maybe 50 years is enough.\u201d<\/p>\n Elsewhere, May had been considering a Queen hologram show<\/a>, as inspired by London\u2019s record-breaking ABBA Voyage experience; however, the musician has since axed that idea due to the amount of AI required in the process.<\/p>\n He shared, I spent a lot of time planning out what I thought could be a Queen show. I\u2019ve kind of backed off now because you can\u2019t do it without massive use of AI, with all the consequences of that.\u201d<\/p>\n Elsewhere in his interview with The Times, May had a request for British Prime Minister Andy Burnham<\/a>, whom he urged to block \u201cevil\u201d AI data centres before it was \u201ctoo late\u201d.<\/p>\n
