WASHINGTON (TNND) \u2014 Comedian Pete Davidson<\/a> said that he doesn\u2019t think New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has \u201cStaten Island heart\u201d during an interview with Variety.<\/p>\n

In a video posted on Variety\u2019s YouTube<\/a> page on Wednesday, Davidson played a game called \u201cStaten Island or Not Staten Island.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davidson is from Staten Island and is the son of Scott Matthew Davidson, a New York City firefighter who died in the line of duty during the September 11 terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n

During the Variety interview, was asked if Mamdani was \u201cStaten Island.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d he answered. \u201cI don\u2019t think he\u2019s from Staten Island. \u201cI don\u2019t know if he has Staten Island\u2019s heart.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said he doesn\u2019t have a problem with Mamdani but says he doesn\u2019t think he is Staten Island at all. He added that Staten Island is the only red place in New York.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s violently red,\u201d he said. \u201cI try to explain it because you know…most of my family is on the red side. It\u2019s not like \u2018storm the capital\u2019 vibe. It\u2019s not like a racist, misogynistic sort of thing. It\u2019s just…like it\u2019s 1985 over there. You are not a real Staten Island politician unless you have a secret family and know one mobster. I would not trust you to run Staten Island.\u201d<\/p>\n

The video of Pete\u2019s statement was posted on the social media platform, X and he got some backlash for his remarks.<\/p>\n
