NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — It’s Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month and on “Tiempo,” we continue to celebrate the many historical and cultural contributions of Latino Americans.<\/p>\n
In this episode, we’ll take a look at a new immigrant cultural center that just opened in Upper Manhattan. It serves as a community anchor designed to amplify immigrant stories through plays, music, dance performances, and public educational programming.<\/p>\n
We’ll also discuss the non-profit The Open Door of New Jersey and New York\u2014an organization that provides free educational programs to immigrants.<\/p>\n
But before we get to those topics, we want to highlight our good friends at Goya who are celebrating a major milestone\u201490 years!<\/p>\n
Goya’s story began in New York City in 1936, founded by Spanish immigrants.<\/p>\n
What started as a small family business grew alongside the Hispanic and Latino communities in New York and beyond.<\/p>\n
Goya grew by listening to those communities and bringing the ingredients and flavors they knew and loved to American tables.<\/p>\n
Nine decades later, Goya has grown from its New York beginnings into a global food company.<\/p>\n
And the company’s legacy centers on giving back.<\/p>\n
Through “Goya Gives,” the company supports organizations and communities through initiatives focused on hunger relief, education, culture and community support.<\/p>\n
Joining us this major milestone is Joe Perez, senior vice president of Goya, and Rafael Toro, national director of public relations for Goya.<\/p>\n
