A\u00a0 suspected drunk driver is in police custody after he crashed on the Grand Central Parkway<\/a> in Queens early Sunday morning, killing his passenger.<\/p>\n

According to police sources, the 34-year-old was driving a Honda Accord just after 4 a.m. Oct. 4 on the Grand Central Parkway under the Steinway Overpass when the deadly collision took place. Cops<\/a> say he was traveling westbound in the right lane when he swerved into the left lane. He then collided with the left side barrier and struck a light pole, which subsequently sent the Honda flipping onto its roof.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old passenger in the back seat was ejected from the vehicle and landed on the roadway. She suffered what police described as severe trauma to her head and body. EMS responded and rushed her to Elmhurst Hospital, where she could not be saved and was pronounced dead.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Police took the driver into custody on scene. While charges have yet to be filed, sources familiar with the investigation report that he is believed to have been under the influence and is expected to be charged.<\/p>\n
