WESTPORT\u2013A Brooklyn man is due in state court next month on charges that he stole $89,000 from another man\u2019s bank account in January 2025, Westport police said.<\/p>\n
The alleged victim told Westport police at the time he had been advised that someone had transferred the money from his account to another in person at an M&T Bank branch in New York State.<\/p>\n
A Westport police investigation into the bank fraud led to John Hammonds, 38, as a suspect,\u00a0 police said. A warrant was issued for his arrest.<\/p>\n
On Aug. 20, authorities in New Jersey told Westport Police that they were holding Hammonds on Westport\u2019s warrant. Police brought Hammonds to Connecticut, where he was charged with first-degree larceny and third-degree identity theft, both felonies, police said.<\/p>\n
